I searched through the forum, tried Forex.com's help, and haven't been able to connect all the dots so hoping for some help.

Here's my situation. I am from the US and used FXCM's platform for my custom automated trading strategy, trading Spot FX. I'm now with Forex.com (who's parent is Gain Capital). It seems you guys support Gain's trading service, but i couldn't get a clear answer if Forex.com's 'API' is the same as Gain's trading service. https://www.forex.com/en-us/services/trading-platforms/api-trading.

My questions are:

1. Is Forex.com's 'API' the same as Gain Capital's trading service? In other words, if i got access to Forex.com's API, would i then be able to make trades with Sierra Chart through that broker?

2. A post mentioned 'technical issues' with Gain Capital. What kind of issues are these and how serious are they? Would they have a big impact for automated trading?
Trading spot FX via Sierra Chart

3. If Forex.com will not work, what other options do I have as a US customer to trade spot FX with your software? Ameritrade is way too expensive, are you guys working on Oanda integration?

Thanks!

1. No it is not, but you can trade forex symbols through Gain Capital using the integration that Sierra Chart uses which is documented here:

2. The main technical issue which was of concern was fixed over the weekend by Gain Capital. Yes it could have been serious with automated trading but it is fixed.

However, we recommend they set you up an account for use on their FIX server Sierra Chart is integrated to and then you can do testing. We have activated your Sierra Chart account for the next two weeks.

3. You can also use Interactive Brokers:

Unfortunately Gain still hasn't processed my account and their a bit of a pain to work with. I just realized your platform integrates with Ameritrade for trades and I think i'm going to give them a shot. A couple of questions:

1. Can you re-enable my account for another few days so i can test the Ameritrade integration?

2. For testing purposes, do you know if I can connect to an Ameritrade 'paper trading' account? I'm assuming this is equivalent to a demo account.

thanks

BTW it looks like Interactive Brokers now require $10 million! in an account to trade leveraged forex for US customers.

1. Yes this is now done.

2. Sierra Chart supports a connection to the older TD Ameritrade HTTP API.

It supports US equities only.
