Hi there,

in sierra, is there a study to easily get a distribution of a data to find out the 1SD, 2SD and mode of the data. I end up having to output the data to excel which is very time consuming and a pain to refresh the data.

For example, if I simply want to find out the volume distribution of range of time-framed bars, or for example, Tick delta distribution, zigzag distributions and so forth. Is there a study or volume profile that I can draw to to easily tell me what's normal and what's not, ie. 1SD, 2SD and Mode of the data or is a volume profile only available to candlesticks which seems to be a limitation for me.

If this is not supported, (which it doesn't seem to be as I tried many way to add Volume profile to studies such as volume ATR and forcing volume profile to base it on a particular study), it is technically possible to add support for it? Further to this question, is it possible on volume profile to show 2 value area percentage to have value area lines display 70% and 90% at the same time?

Thanks so much

This can be done by using the Volume Value Area Lines study and adding it twice to the chart, each one configured differently.

The other questions are outside the scope of our support.

However, we will see about longer-term adding the capability to support horizontal volume type bars for studies as a draw style.

Actually, we will try to get this out next month:

That would be great!! ++ to you for considering this! Would the value area lines idea you provided on this thread work the same way on this new feature? It would be great to easily see on a volume profile 2 different percentages something like the attached example.

Thank you

Sierra Chart does have two new Horizontal Profile study Draw Styles. They are documented here:

Appreciate this but I was under the impression that you were going to support the volume by price study to be drawn over indicators... is that no longer on your to do list?

Thank you for your time

Definitely not. That was never the intention. There are only the Draw Styles which draw horizontal profiles.

If you also want to see the study using its own standard Draw Style, then just add the study again to the same Chart Region.

Could you make available Volume Value Area Lines source code? Thanks

This is not possible due to the implementation. It would not be in a format which is usable.

I tried to change a volume histogram to show show as Horizontal Profile subgraph instead of Bar subgraph. I need to know for example what is the mode and value area for the distribution. How can I get VPOC, VAL, VAH plotted please? And could this data be exported?

I am attaching an example. This volume profile doesn't seem correct to me. How can I change the Bin on the y Axis if for example i want a histogram grouped for every 100 volume.
The histogram seems to be set to display according to what is visible on the screen. How can I control on which data the horizontal profile is calculated. Say I only want a profile drawn based on the last 5 days only.

Thank you

None of what you are looking for is supported with that Draw Style and we cannot provide further with this. This is totally and completely outside of the capabilities of that Draw Style. You are going to go nowhere with these requests.

You are the very first person in the history of Sierra Chart ever asking about such capabilities for a Volume study which shows volume per bar.

It sounds like what you are interested in is the Relative Volume study.

You might be interested in using the Volume by Price study on the main price graph.

Thank you for your time in getting back.

I was not referring to the relative volume study and used the volume study as an example because it is simple to understand.

But I wanted to highlight that I have seen other users commenting on this. The idea behind it is to see what values are not normal for an indicator (not necessarily volume - could be anything). But anyway, if you don't want to do this you don't do it. There are other packages like IRT who does it so I'm not sure where you are going with saying that I am the only one in the history of sierra who requested such functionality. No offence there just wanted to point that out. Another user on this thread itself asked for this as well.

Thank you
