I would really really appreciate if you could please add a "DIAGONAL Positive Delta Sum" and a "DIAGONAL Negative Delta Sum" to the table. I'm already using the diagonal-dominant background coloring method in the numbers bars, which works great, but would also like to be able to tally those results.

Separately, it would be nice if you could also add a very simple study that would allow one to plot any result from that table as an individual subchart. As it is, I sometimes use more computationally-intensive studies for that purpose, such as the absolute value study, which is overkilled and wasteful.

Thank you very much.

Are these available in other programs that provide this type of information?:
"DIAGONAL Positive Delta Sum" and a "DIAGONAL Negative Delta Sum"

You can use the Study Subgraphs Reference study and set the Draw Style for one of the Subgraphs to Ignore.

As far as I know, there are no other studies that allow one to calculate a "DIAGONAL Positive Delta Sum" and a "DIAGONAL Negative Delta Sum". Sideways or lateral calculations of the Positive Delta Sum and the Negative Delta Sum are found in the Numbers Bars Calculated Values Study and therefore, it would be logical to place the diagonal calculations in that study.

Also, the Numbers Bars Study allows one to calculate and display a lateral or sideways Ask Bid Vol Difference but not a diagonal difference. I am able to color the background of the diagonal dominant side but not to calculate and display the diagonal Ask Bid Vol Differences. Hence, it would be nice to also have that option in the study.

Thank you in advance.

OK we are looking this over.

This has now been added but the question is should the diagonal comparison be above or below? So we added both:

"This has now been added [to the Numbers Bars Study] but the problem should the diagonal comparison be above or below. So we added both"

From the perspective of a user, I believe that the double ladder/column display of the diagonal deltas is confusing. It would be more intuitive and useful to let the direction of the close price in a bar dictate the proper format to display at any price level in any given time. If the prices are moving up, then the "above" format should be displayed, and vice versa. If such a task cannot be performed in real time while the bar is forming, then at the close of the bar should suffice. As for the background coloring method to use, the current method used for the horizontal deltas (based on askvol bidvol difference percentage) can be recycled. Thanks a million!

Bid  Ask  Down Close  Up Close

0  0     -346
346  1967   -346   -114
2081  1428   -114   721
707  338   -721   317
21  0   317   0
0  0   0

Nice job gentlemen. I'm very grateful that you were able to find the time to work on this project so soon. I did notice however that when I applied the background coloring method based on "askvol bidvol difference percentage" I got the same results as with the horizontal "ask bid vol difference"; meaning the calculations are all based on the sideways comparison. Finally, I still believe that it would be less cluttered if a "convention" had been adopted for displaying a single diagonal delta for each price level, perhaps one based on my up close/down close idea. It would at least allow one to use the full-background type option. Personally, I believe that there are no right or wrong conventions since this is all new territory and the offset is negligible; therefore, whatever you decide is fine by me. Besides, there is no holy grail in technical analysis and I still plan to continue using the old horizontal delta since it also yields useful information - despite the recent hoopla over the diagonal delta, I have yet to find evidence in my research that it offers a consistent decisive advantage over the old horizontal delta. Thanks again.

it's not an easy calculation actally. It either has to be calculated in the sequence it traded from open to close, and take the next bid or ask in the following number bar it there was one, i.e, if there was continutation in price, or simply calculate diagonally each bar, considering ask as zero value for the last bid/ask depending on the colour of the candle, i.e, the direction.

Well if it is not an easy calculation or too time-consuming to change the diagonal delta display from a double ladder format to a single ladder, then I think I might have an alternative solution to my problem that is much easier on the eye - please see image below. We can focus on the background coloring method logic instead of focusing on the type of text output displayed. I was able to selectively color the positive diagonal deltas green on the "ask" column side of the double ladder and the negative diagonal deltas red on the "bid" column side by selecting a text color (black in this instance) that disappears into the chart background and then choosing "ask bid vol difference diagonal" for the "numbers bar text", "background on dominant side" for the "background type", and "diagonal dominant side" for the "background coloring method". So now all that is left to do is for a programmer to add a new "background coloring method" option that is "based on askvol bidvol DIAGONAL difference percentage" and voila! I hope this sounds more reasonable now. Thanks.

is this an accurate picture of Ask Bid Vol Difference Diagonal (AskVolume BidVolume Difference Diagonal) as Numbers Bars Text Types + Based On AskVol BidVol Diagonal Difference Percentage" as a Background Coloring Method?

thanks!

No. That image was uploaded prior to the release of the "AskVol BidVol Diagonal Difference Percentage" option, so the background coloring is based on Diagonal Dominant Side instead of percent difference.

There might be one somewhere, but I figured it would be easier to create a new one for you:

Hope it helps.

thank you User50927 - that image is awesome!

for your pic, the yellow highlighted prices are the poc of each bar right?

do you know how to highlight the prices of the bars that exceed a certain volume ( numbers bar - how to highlight price if total volume is above x ) ?

Thank you. Glad you liked it. But I think the Sierra Charts team deserves the credit. THEY are awesome!!

Yes, the POC is highlighted in yellow.

For the volume, just choose color the background based on volume percentage and then input whatever 3 whole numbers you prefer, such as "500, 1000, 2000" in place of the default decimals (.25, .50, .75). In the example below I chose to highlight any price level with a total volume of at least 3000:

Have fun!

Is it possible to add to the Numbers Bar Calculated.

Add

# of trades at High
# of trades at low
or
# of Bid trades at high
# of ask trades at high
# of bid trades at low
