I was told I did not need to save any files for my chart setups on my computer when I enquired prior to replacing my computer operating system. Having updated my computer, all my charts are missing. How do I retrieve all my chart setups from the past few years?
I have tried looking in the Historical charts section - None of my charts are there.
Thankyou for any assistance you can provide.
Kind regards
Peter Mac

Interesting who told you this....
That would be weird if my chart setups were stored on SC servers. As far as I see everything stored locally.
Sad, but seems you can only try to recover your data using recovery tools. SC team, correct me if there is another way.

PS
I recommend to do backups of SC installation folder (excluding data files) to external drive once a week.

If you did not make a backup of the folder that Sierra Chart was installed to, then you will not have your Chartbooks, Study collections, Spreadsheets, and other data.

You should do backups of all important data on a regular basis. as hard drives do fail.

I rang the help desk at Infinity AT yesterday (It would have been the nightshift) when I was backing up everything else prior to killing it. I couldn't find any files to backup so I asked whoever was on the help line at the time. (Told them what I was doing). They told me that as long as I had saved everything when I exited, my charts and everything would all be there on my new system.
Tim Kohn then sent me a link to re-download the program.
It appears the advice was not only useless - but has now cost me at least 3 years of charts and studies I had developed.
I thought it was a bit odd - but I was too stupid to double check. I thought the help desk I rang was for this charting program - but I now think it must just be my broker.
And I didn't know to go to this site until I rang back after reloading and finding no charts - and I was told to go here to find out how to fix it.
Disastrous outcome, can't believe how stupid I was in not investigating it more thoroughly.
Thankyou for all confirming what I had feared.
For future reference - can anyone tell me where I find the files that I had been looking for to back up?

For something like this, we are the only definitive support. You should not trust anyone else.

Search your system for files with a "CHT" file extension. If they are on your system they will have that extension.

The folder that you will want to backup next time is going to be \SierraChart and all of the subfolders. It is very simple and very easy to find. There are no files located anywhere else. Sierra Chart is fully self-contained. It does not use the registry or put files in the Windows folder or anywhere else.
