You can chart and trade OEC options from Sierra Chart.

You just manually enter the option symbol through File >> Find Symbol in the Selected Symbol box.

You can determine the option symbols through the OEC Trader software.

We need to make a correction. In the prior post we meant "You can determine the option symbols through the OEC Trader software".

What's OEC Trader Software? I currently trading Options through IB and am subscribed to the market data for both Canadian and US options. So if I use this OEC Trader Software, do I still have to subscribe to those market data with IB or can I get market data from this OEC Trader Software?

Also can I use the ASCIL custom studies files for trading Options?

Thanks

This is the trading software from Gain Capital. We do not recommend that service.

Another alternative for futures options is the CQG trading platform service:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/CQGTrading.php

If you are using Interactive Brokers to trade options, you do have to subscribe to the market data through Interactive Brokers.

Yes you can use ACSIL for trading options. Refer to:

So how do I trade Options using Sierra Charts while with IB as my broker? Does Sierra Charts support Option trading? How do I find symbols in Sierra Charts for options at IB?

Thanks

Yes you can trade options when using Sierra Chart when it is connected to Interactive Brokers. For the options symbol format, refer to this page:

First for options symbols, the multiplier, does that include the 100 shares or just the multiplier itself? Let's say you want to trade 35 of the 100-share option, so do you put 3500 in the "Multiplier" field or just 35?

Second is the symbol in string format? Can I convert numbers into string to be put into that symbol?

Thanks and Happy Holidays if I don't need to talk to you again. :)

You need to use a valid multiplier. When you enter the Symbol in the Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation, you can see all of the valid multipliers.

Is this a programming question? If it is, then the answer is yes.

It's the same multiplier that I use here when trading in options with Sierra Charts?

Not sure we understand the question. It will be best to ask Interactive Brokers this question.

Whatever you specify for the multiplier in the overall symbol is exactly what is provided to Trader Workstation in the option contract specification.

IB also offers several different SMART order routing algorithms as follows:

SMART Option Routing Algorithms

Choose how to route a smart-routed, non-marketable options order.

SMART Multipurpose (SMART) - this is the basic smart-routing algorithm. Routes your non-marketable order to the default exchange for the instrument .
SMART Maximize Rebate (SMART MaxRebate) - Routes the order to the exchange offering the highest rebate.
SMART Prefer Rebate (SMART PreferRebate) - Routes the order with the bias toward getting a rebate vs. getting the order filled.
SMART Prefer Fill (SMART PreferFill) - Routes the order with the bias toward getting a fill vs. getting a rebate.
SMART Maximize Fill (SMART MaxFill) - Routes the order with the sole objective of getting a fill.

Are those available when specifying "exchange" in the symbol when trading via Sierra Charts? I only found "SMART" as the exchange in the symbol in the documentation for Option Format.

Thanks

The question is whether those are specified through the exchange field in the overall symbol or some other way. We do not know.

You can set the exchange to whatever you want. It can be SMART or whatever. So you have no restriction there. You are not limited to what the documentation specifies. The exchange field is a free-form field that can be set to anything.

So you could try setting the exchange to SMART MaxRebate. This will be just fine.

Yes that would be correct. I strongly suggest Sierra Charts to implement a function that allows users to delete posts that they no longer wish to be answered. That way the technical support would not need to waste time and energy tending to posts that are hidden because the user could not delete it like in this situation.

Thank you for your attention still. I appreciate it.

To clarify.

Are there options tables in SC?

Sierra Chart Engineering - Posts: 104368
You really have to manually create the tables of options.

You have to manually create the options tables? These are dynamic moving instruments.

Unless I am really missing something it seems a bit of a stretch to say that Sierra has option trading functionality. Again, its an amazing platform and you guys have truly done an incredible job but I'd have to say this one seems like a bit of an oversight.

To the extent we will expand upon options functionality it would only be with our own data feeds and nothing else. For example, this functionality would never be offered to be used with Interactive Brokers.

I don't mind where the options data feed comes from but to trade options you need true options tables that are dynamic and real time. Is there anything in the pipeline to have functional options tables for a certain equity or future?

SC is infinitely better than NT, but it is relevant that NT8 just released their option chain last week.
