This is not an error message and it is not a message to be concerned with.

Are you having trouble connecting to IQ Feed?

also, in my secondary copy of SC, since the Windows reinstall, i have changed the location of the Data folder. now my chartbooks cannot find their data

Failed to get dates from Intraday data file. Failed to open the file S:\SIERRADATA2\@EU#C.scid for reading. Windows error code 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Intraday data file does not exist. File: S:\SIERRADATA2\@EU#C.scid | 2015-09-14 02:12:15

i.e. my charts are looking in the old data folder location instead of the new data location, even though i have specified in General Settings 'Always use Data folder within main folder'

please advise on how to get my old chartbooks to look for data in the new location.

If you are seeing that message, then the connection most definitely cannot be OK to DTN IQ Feed. Follow step number 10 to exit from the IQ feed software:
DTN IQ Feed Data Service: Setup Instructions

We think the problem with this is that the chart is using data from a remote chart data file. We are working on documentation for how to change this to the current instance you are using.

For now just open new charts. Also, any time you have a problem like this, do not wait around for us to respond. Just open new charts since this takes time for us to analyze.

1. DTN IQfeed was not connected, DTN tech re-set up my system and this has solved the problem.
2. i created a symbolic link in Windows, from the old data folder to the new one, for now.

on this topic, please note, changing symbols in sierra has always been buggy. it would be great if you could look into this. issues include: typing a symbol into chart settings Symbol box does not always work, one must manually Find the symbol by browsing. also when running 2 copies of SC (for use with another data feed) this multiplies the issue x2 and either one may or may not take once typed in.

thanks for the support, i am up and running now.

2. We recommend that you do not do this.

typing a symbol into chart settings Symbol box does not always work, one must manually Find the symbol by browsing.
In general this does not make sense. It is not possible for a symbol not to work in this way. There must be some other details to this.

2. thank you, i will fix my data folders

symbol settings: these settings have always been buggy for me. i notified Support about this last year i believe.
a. entering a new Chart Symbol sometimes blanks out the Trade Symbol. typing the trade symbol often does not work, it must be selected from the Find dialogue box, also
b. upon changing symbols, sometimes chart type will change to Historical without notice.

the whole symbol functionality is buggy in that 'fights' what the user is trying to do (enter symbols) but i find that if i do this exactly, it generally works: 1. set chart type to Intraday, 2. Set symbol via Find box, 3. Set Traded symbol via Find box, then it is ok. however changing one or the other symbol may cause the chart to shift into Historical mode without warning, until the 3 steps are followed in order. it is a minor inconvenience. please lmk if you want more details.

all i know is that the above symptoms have been my experience among all symbols for as long as i have used the program.

FYI i use DTN IQfeed (with a background and foreground copy of Sierra) running on Win7-64 SP1 (fully updated). Sierra build 1294

i have a very complex chartbook with several studies referencing other charts. do i really have to rebuild the entire chartbook because the data folder has moved?

is there is a better way ?

it is not working. the DTN IQ (background) copy of Sierra finds and stores the data in the proper new data folder. however my 'trading' (broker) copy of Sierra is still looking for data in the old location, despite the Data files folder set to the new location: C:\SierraChart\Data\ and 'Always Use Data folder within main folder is checked.

a. entering a new Chart Symbol sometimes blanks out the Trade Symbol.
This is expected. In the next release there will be a way to set and the Trade and Current Quote symbol in the Global Settings >> Symbol Settings which will solve this problem.

typing the trade symbol often does not work, it must be selected from the Find dialog box, also
We do not understand this.

b. upon changing symbols, sometimes chart type will change to Historical without notice.
This does not make any sense. We are certain that no one else is experiencing this. Please provide us the specific steps to duplicate this and the Chartbook.

i will do this at some point for you. i need to focus on the major data file location problem above, as shown in the logfile entries. please advise as this is causing great delays in my chart recalcs. sierra is looking in the wrong place for the data. rebuilding all of my charts would be a daunting task.

To solve the above error messages, refer to this new documentation we have prepared:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/MultipleServices.html#UpdatingRemoteChartDataFolder

If it is not clear, let us know. The documentation explains how to update the folder for the charts referencing remote data, causing this error in the destination copy of Sierra Chart.

Update: The above documented procedure has not been tested but we do expect it should work.

this has solved the issue. thank you very much, this is great. i performed the procedure for every blank chart that was not getting data, and there are no more 'cannot find data' messages.

curiously this relates to the issue i described above about charts resetting to Historical until these symbol pointers are manually updated by going through every step of selecting the symbol from the list. i now understand that Sierra requires this procedure to refresh its symbol and data folder references. but this is not clear from the interface, and it is clunky. i hope some automatic functionality, could be implemented whereby Sierra knows what's up at all times without user intervention.

anyway thanks again, cheers
