Hello,

We are aware of the problem with the NYSE TICK and we are working on it.

This is an unusual issue that is taking longer to solve than expected.

This problem is unrelated to the new Sierra Chart version. It is a server-side issue.

Thank you.

The problem is now resolved.

There a couple of reasons for the delay. But one reason was that the problem required troubleshooting and a code change.

The reason for the problem was that in order to address a concern that the TICK sometimes has a different value compared to other TICK calculations at the open, we had made change to see if we could solve that and that change caused this problem on Fridays.

Most of this time this change would not make a difference, or the difference would be small.

There is missing data for the TICK-NYSE and the other TICK market statistics for the morning of 2015-08-14. This is because of the interruption this morning.

The missing data cannot be recovered. We apologize for this.

Update: We will fill in the missing data for TICK-NYSE and make a posting here when this is done.

One of the reasons for the delay was that one of our support engineers was unavailable this morning due to an Internet connectivity problem they had. Although they would have noticed the problem, they would not have been able to do anything about it themselves. The programmer responsible for this needed to be contacted.

One of our other programmers who does monitor the board for critical problems like this at 9:30 AM Eastern time, did not recognize this as a problem on one of our own servers especially being our server monitoring system did not report a problem and could not report a problem like this. He is one of our newer programmers. They are now aware of this.

Another one of our senior programmers who does check the board around the US open, was not available this morning. Ultimately it was them who resolved the problem because they are the programmer for the TICK. And it was their effort to improve the TICK which caused this problem. It was not completely reasonable for the other programmers to have taken other actions to resolve this, because a software rollback which would have been a possible solution, would have affected other market statistics calculations for the day.

We are going to patch in some data now for the TICK-NYSE to fill in the missing data for this morning's interruption.

While this failure does disappoint us being that it occurred and went on as long as it did, unfortunately scenarios like this sometimes do develop and even affects large operations. The NYSE recently had an outage which affected at least half of their trading day. That was also due to new software which was deployed, that had a problem with it.

As a result of this, we are looking into adding another server to calculate market statistics.

While we have never had a hardware failure, we do need the redundancy. This other server will have partially mitigated this problem but not completely.

When we do a software update, we will only do it on one server at a time and keep it on the server for a week to make sure it is thoroughly tested.

And if there is a hardware failure, a second server will be a backup.

If we have a second server, if an event like this were to occur again, what users can do is select File >> Disconnect and File >> Connect to Data Feed. This will cause a connection to servers which feed off of the other server.

Another thing we want to make clear, is that the server which calculates market statistics, distributes that data to multiple other servers that users actually connect to. So the calculations server, users are kept off of it completely. So our plan is to add another server dedicated solely for market statistics.
