We just want to put a few quick notes down right now. There are some market data feed changes that are long overdue. There needs to be support for fractional quantities/sizes/volumes. And also there needs to be support for double precision floating-point values for prices. The work to support this, is now nearing completion. Also, new trade indicators for the US equities feed need to be implemented. There are new DTC Protocol messages which support double values for price and quantity. These have existed since the beginning, but they have not been used because we want to reduce data transmission size. However, this really has not been relevant, since compression was added many years ago. However, these original messages do not have, the time precision and fields needed, that are being used now. So there are 4 new DTC Protocol messages used for market data which we will be releasing. The older DTC Protocol market data messages will be phased out by the end of the year. However, the more important thing is that the transmission of market data to users needs to be efficient. After an update over the next two weeks, when the Server processes are transmitting data to users, the latest format messages will be used. And that is the most efficient message. When the data has to be sent to an older Sierra Chart version, a copy of the message has to be made and this is less efficient. This inefficiency begins to affect all users when hundreds of users per process are being served. This may not be significant, but it is very important that all users are running an up-to-date version of Sierra Chart. So therefore, we are going to require that users update Sierra Chart to an upcoming version which we will have out in about 1 to 2 weeks. There needs to be a lot of testing on our side first. None of this is complicated or difficult, and everything is working well. This is not like a major new version or anything like that. We just need to make sure that back compatibility is being maintained for older Sierra Chart versions. All of this is very straightforward and simple from our side. However, maintaining, ongoing compatibility with older Sierra Chart versions is simply inefficient and too difficult and confusing and we are just not going to do that. There can never be a guarantee, that we can maintain support for older Sierra Chart versions being that data is being fed from our servers. There are just too many critical changes that are being made. Therefore, there is not going to be support for older versions, from the version that we release in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. Users will be required to update by December 2026. So it is important to update to a current version now. So that the upgrade process, is more graceful. For example if you have not updated in two years this is not good. The simple fact is, Sierra Chart is faster, and more stable, in particular with OpenGL, compared to older versions. There are many improvements, and minor issues resolved. So there is no reason not to update. Some OpenGL issues, have been resolved but not yet released. Windows 7 is still supported. Sierra Chart is still the same program as always. The only major difference is the new settings windows, and we document those here: Settings Windows Interface: New Chart Settings Window One incredible feature, that these new settings windows have, is the ability to right-click on a settings line, and copy the name and value. You can also copy all of the values at once. The other thing which is not very significant as of the last year or so, but support for older services like OEC, and CTS and some other services have been phased out. We also phased out many years ago TD Ameritrade but now Ameritrade is part of Charles Schwab and it is our plan to add support for Schwab trading hopefully by the end of the year. So there is simply no reason to be staying on an older version. It is not like Microsoft, which is forcing upon people, a radically different operating system, which is taking control away from you. Sierra Chart is still the same as always and many small issues, have been resolved. And a lot of new features have been added. One new recent feature, is to base the Volume by Price study on the zigzag study. Another thing we should add in about a week or so, is the ability when jumping forward to the next bar in a variable timeframe bar chart, to have other charts in the replay also jump forward to the exact same starting time of the next bar in the controlling chart. Anyway we will have more information later. We just want to put out a few quick notes. We do not expect to put out a new release for about a week because there is a lot of server-side updates that have to be done and thought through carefully. But the simple fact is all users are going to need to update, to a new version we will be putting out, in about in 1-2 weeks from now, by December 2026. We also talked about in another thread, the change from float values to double values, for the main chart data arrays. The internal changes for that are nearing completion but that is going to be a release, later on. That change will not be made now. It will probably be near the end of the year. That is not considered a critical change. That is being implemented in a way where we just need to change one type (literally one line of code, shown below). And can easily roll that back without any issue. typedef float t_ChartArrayDataType;//TODO double
We will also be contacting Rithmic about changes they need to make. These are very easy for them to do. It is also the plan to add more crypto currencies exchanges for market data and for us to add trading for Binance and Coinbase. Coinbase market data has been released, but the quantity values are wrong until this new upcoming release. Another thing that has been going on in the background, is we are moving, the multicast data feed processing from the exchanges like the CME, and US equities, to Linux. Market data rates have increased to a point, where Windows simply cannot handle it. Multicast feed processing is very challenging in order to avoid losing packets, in particular with US equities feeds, and we need the degree of control, and efficiency of Linux for that. Thinking about this some more we will have a new release out this Thursday. We will make a change so that this new release is going to work properly with the existing real-time server programs.
