As we're all very visual using charts, is there a way that a line could be added automatically when adding a symbol alert?

At the moment if I want a symbol alert I move my cursor to the price, right click and click 'Add symbol alert'.

A box pops up, I check the price level is correct, and then click OK.

But wouldn't it be far better to also add a line automatically so we can instantly visualise where that alarm actually is? Make it a check box in case some don't want a line.

A line would also make moving the price of the alarm simple, just grab and move the line versus the current way, have to go in Alert Manager, find the alert, right click, click edit, highlight the price box, delete what's there, and add in the new price. That can take 10+ secs, moving a line takes 1-2.

When people use man many alarms, not having a visual line on the actual chart, means we then have to go and check on the Alert manager if an alarm if actually set. If traders have dozens of alarms, maybe even more, it's not the best way to manage alarms. A visual line makes it so much easier and less time consuming.

Thank you.

You can do what you want using the Alerts associated with the Drawing Tools. Set a "Horizontal Line" where you want it, and set the Alert as you want it.

For instance, if you set the line above the current price and want the alert to go off when the price goes above the line, then you would set the following for the Drawing Alert:
- Study Subgraph: Last
- Comparison to Drawing: Above

Refer to the following:

Thank you John.

If I were to try what you suggest, would details of the Alert appear in the Alert Manager under the 'Symbol Alert' tab.

Or would the details of the alert appear somewhere else?

Thanks.

The details of alerts for Chart Drawings is in the main "Log" on the "Alert Manager".

Thanks for your reply.

But it doesn't make sense because now I have some alerts under 'Symbol Alert' on the Alert Manager window and also - if I use the other way of adding an alert, discussed above - some other alerts under the 'Log' on the Alert Manager. Plus, there is no line automatically added when I use the 'Add Alert' feature.

How is one supposed to quickly and efficiently keep track of many alerts on many different symbols? Some might appear under 'Symbol Alert' whereas others might appear under 'Log', and the Log tab also has many other events listed so you might have to scroll and scroll to actually find it.

Surely ALL alerts on a symbol should appear under 'Symbol Alerts' otherwise what's the point of having it if it doesn't list all the Alerts on the symbols you've added an Alert to.

Sierra is known for its slickness and efficiency, and that's very well deserved. But on every other chart package I've used over the years - substandard to Sierra I might add - adding an alert was simple - Right click on the chart where you want the alert to be - click add alert, and it's done in 1-2 secs. Want to move the alert, grab the line and move etc.

But with Sierra you don't even know there's actually an alert on a chart because there is no line automatically added. Sure you can add one, but it's more clicks and less efficient. Plus, if you want to edit the alert, you then have to move the line. 2 steps instead of one and both hands having to be used because the keyboard comes into play.

My solution is the above, make it simple - Right click - Add alert - Line drawn (if you want), and done.

Add details of the alert to the Symbol Alert tab within Alert Manager. Don't put them under 'Log' because they're Symbol Alerts so should always be under 'Symbol Alerts' and never in Log.

Thank you for your time.

We have noted this as a Feature Request, to have the ability to right-click to set a Symbol Alert at that level and have some ability to have a line associated with that symbol alert that can be moved.

We can not say when we would get to any particular request.
