Hi, I am trying to get previous week's RTH-Only Value Area levels (VAH, VAL, and POC) as soon as the Friday RTH session ends (at 04:00pm EST). The market for the week ends at 05:00pm EST on Friday. I am unable to do this using Volume Value Area lines study as I must wait till Sunday evening to get the required levels reflected on my chart. Please advise.

We are not certain of what you are wanting.

The Value Area Levels for the previous session will not be available until that session is actually the previous session, which will be when the market opens on Sunday night. Until then, the levels for that previous week are the current values. So you might want to view the current sessions values until you the next one starts.

My requirement is that Friday RTH session ends (means Weekly RTH sessions end) at 16:00pm EST, and hence, at 16:01pm EST, the Vol Area Lines study should be able to plot Previous Week RTH VA levels. This is not happening currently. Same thing with Previous Monthly RTH VA when the month ends, we need to wait for Monday for the previous Monthly RTH VA to plot automatically. This study do work just fine for Previous Day RTH VA Levels though.

The system builds the charts based on the timestamps from the trades. It does not know that the real-time is 16:01, it only knows that the last trade received was at 15:59:59. As such, it needs to receive the next trade in order to know that the previous bar is closed and that there is trading in the next session. As such, what you are wanting is simply not how the system works. The previous week does not become the previous week until there is a trade in the current week. On a Friday, this would not be until the open on Sunday evening.

Technically, the weekly RTH session ends on 16:00pm PST on Friday and not Sunday open. On Sunday open also, this study is not recognizing the close of previous week’s weekly RTH session. This study plots previous weekly RTH session VA levels only when Monday RTH session opens.

Yes, technically the RTH session (and the week) for the main products traded on the CME Group at 15:59:59 Central US time. But again, Sierra Chart does not look at the world this way. The internal mechanisms work by looking at the timestamps of the trades. So when 16:00:00 comes around and there are no trades, the system does not know that it is 16:00:00. It just knows that there are no trades coming in. Until the next trade at 17:00:00 Central US Time occurs on Sunday evening, the system doesn't know anything about the actual time. Then, when that trade comes in, it recognizes the Session Times and starts a new period.

And, if a chart is setup to only display the RTH (which is typically 08:30:00 Central US Time), the system is not going to recognize the start of a new period until that time occurs (Monday morning in this case).

CME does trade even after 16:00pm EST and definitely the trades are coming until 17:00pm EST on Friday.
