What happened to the ability to copy the workings of one toolBar to another?
This did not exist previously and also is too vague as to what you exactly mean.The reason for the wide Control Bar is you need to remove the "Status Bar" item on it through Global Settings >> Customize Toolbars. Any Control Bar that you want to attach to the left or right should not contain the Status Bar item. There are 8 Tool/Control bars you can customize any way you want.
