At Interactive Brokers (IBKR), you must meet specific regulatory, capital, and experience requirements. Futures trading requires a margin account, and IBKR typically requires a minimum initial deposit for such accounts. Here are the key requirements for a futures trading account at Interactive Brokers: Capital Requirements Minimum Deposit: To open a margin account capable of trading futures, you generally need a minimum of USD 2,000 (or non-USD equivalent) in cash. Account Type Margin Account: Futures must be traded in a margin account, which is a “Commodities” account type within IBKR’s structure. In the past Interactive Brokers was very selective on who they approved to open a futures trading account even with the required $2,000 minimum deposit for a margin account. Interactive Brokers uses full margin always for all futures trades. There is no reduced day margin. It is a lot easier to open a futures trading account with Stage 5 or other Teton Order Routing Brokers with $100. That will be your best bet. |
