This has been fixed in recent releases: windows not left in the state they were in,

We specifically designed the changes so it is no problem going back to 2813 and earlier. So window position and sizes are maintained identically as they should be. Although, as we think about this some more, the minimized and maximized states, will not be properly restored when downgrading to 2813. This is something we need to resolve. So we want you to wait and we will put out a new release, to solve this. And also though we do think that your issues can be resolved. But anyway downgrading is fine but wait until 2882 which you will need to update to save your Chartbooks and you will need to downgrade.
