The only other possible thing that we can think to check is that your Custom Study needs to be lower in the list of studies in the "Analysis >> Studies >> Studies to Graph" area than the "Add Additional Symbol" study. The general process of the coloring is the order of the studies in that list from top to bottom, so the bottom studies are drawn last. Related to the above, if you have specified a specific Precedence level for your study, then this could also be the reason that you are having an issue.
