For the top and bottom, there is a setting called "Scale Padding Percentage" and there is a "Default Scale Padding Percentage". Refer to the following and item below it:
Chart Scale and Scale Adjusting: Scale Padding Percentage (Scale Settings)

This will keep a certain buffer (margin) at the top and bottom as long as you do not change the position of the chart. But once you change the location, everything shifts, so you would need to reset the scales to get back to your default padding percentage.


You can also set a "margin" on the right side of the chart using the "Lock Fill Space" option. Refer to the following:
Chart Menu: Lock Fill Space (Chart menu)

There is no way to get a "margin" on the left side of the chart.
