When you select a configuration button from a Control Bar, you are changing the configuration for a selected tool. So if the configuration is set to have nothing displayed for the text, then this would be a reason for the text to disappear when you select the configuration button.
I understand this, what I'm saying is when I change and save the configuration of a text tool then use the toolbar buttons to modify the text properties based on the toolbar config, the text actually disappears off the screen (ie it erases the text rather than updating it to the desired config) - no matter which toolbar buttons I save the config to.
