As a side-effect of the problem reported here: SC2758 GUI hang/crash on Linux/wine SC decided to re-download market depth data for ESM25 (from 2024/11/18) and NQM25 (from 2024/11/25). This came a little bit as a surprise, because at the time of the crash no market depth study was loaded that could have the old data in access. The only explanation I can think of is that the file system errors, that the crash left behind, also affected these nodes. Anyway, SC re-downloaded the old data. Comparing this with my backup shows that some of the data files are different in size. Some of the files in the backup are larger than the re-downloaded files. Some of the files in the backup are smaller than the re-downloaded files. The size differences range from a few hundred bytes to several MB. I viewed some of these with a hex compare tool, and these differences can appear anywhere: At the beginning of the files, at the end, are somewhere in the middle. Furthermore even files with the same size may actually have different content: In every 24byte record, bytes 0-15 are identical, 16-19 are different, 20-23 identical. Sometimes byte 20 is also different. This lets me question the validity of the market depth data in general. Where do these differences originate from?? And about the current situation: Should I restore the market depth data files from the backup, or should I use the re-downloaded files? |
