Functionally, they are the same. So if you are just looking at the DOM portion, they are going to act the same way in either case. There are some small differences in how the default scaling works, but you can set them to be the same in either case. The difference, however, is that one has the chart attached and one does not. So if there is something that you want to see related to a chart while working with the DOM, then you would need to the Chart DOM.
