In order to qualify for the lower priced Non-Professional exchange fees from the CME Group (CME and CBOT), then you need to connect at least once a month to your trading account. We do this check electronically, so that is why it is required. It certainly would be easier to just stay connected, but you do not need to.

The EUREX does not have this requirement, not that it matters, as you will need to do this anyway for the CME Group. Note that the EUREX data is on the Sierra Chart Exchange Data Feed, whereas the CME Group is on the Denali Exchange Data Feed. Refer to the information here:
