disadvantages of your proposed solutions: 1) "Do not draw into the fill space on the right side of the chart" - trendlines are usually into the future. A trendline drawn until the current bar is of less use. Or if the user wants to use it, the user needs to move it very often, bar after bar, which is waste of time. 2) "do not use variable length bars" - impossible for trades who rely on a chart and strategy that requires variable length bars. 3) "use rays" - when you draw dozens of rays your chart becomes full of rays (some of which you cannot even see where they start from or are too old to be relevant) which makes analysis harder.
