Now we understand that this is not a good situation at all for the Sierra Chart server to be down for hours and up to a day for some users due to the DNS not yet updating.

We do have backup procedures in place and we do maintain a backup server. The transition delay had to do with verifying the integrity of the databases which we also maintain backups of.

Now the other problem is that we had a TTL for www.sierrachart.com of 86,400 . Normally this is set to 10,800 (three hours) but we were getting close to 10 million DNS queries per month and we just made a quick change to put this up to 86,400 until we could upgrade to a higher plan and then unfortunately we had overlooked that. We are going to upgrade to a higher plan to take this TTL back down to three hours.

Now none of our data servers were affected and we always have redundancy with all of our data servers. Only the main Sierra Chart Web server was affected.

And Sierra Chart itself on your desktop does not depend on the Web server to login in most cases. Only when logging in for the very first time, or you have not logged in for several weeks, is there a dependency on the main Sierra Chart server to get in to the Sierra Chart program itself.
