This is the first report we have of this and the implementation is done in such a way there should not be a problem because the OS pointer input is captured and not released until you release the left click even if moving over another window. When you have the problem just select Tools >> Pointer to reset the internal tool states. Being nothing has changed with this functionality over the years, and this is the first we have ever heard of this, we are going to assume this is a system-level issue at this time.
