Yes the storage device is going to make the most difference. And yes especially the M.2 ones.

More RAM may help. Certainly a faster CPU with more cores is going to help. Using multiple instances of Sierra Chart helps also. And increasing the Chart Update Interval also helps:
Chart Settings: Chart Update Interval in Milliseconds (Chart >> Chart Settings >> Display >> Chart Update Interval menu)
