The Renko in Ticks setting found in Chart >> Chart Settings produces very accurate Renko bars when used with tick by tick data. The reason when using the Renko study that you probably have to perform a recalculation is because the underlying bars are 90 minutes. The Renko study is not going to function correctly with an underlying bar duration that long. There simply is no support for using a long time duration underlying bar.
