I don't have account with Gain so I don't know how Gain interfaces with Sierra Charts but from my experience in trading with my broker using Sierra Charts, what happens to your order depends on whether your order was sent to your broker or not BEFORE Sierra Charts is closed. Assume you are trading live with Sierra Charts and Sierra Charts is connected with Gain, your broker, and your auto-trading program is set to send orders to your broker, any market orders that is generated by your program will be immediately sent to your broker to be executed. Note that Sierra Charts do NOT execute any orders because it's NOT a broker; it just handles and transmits your order. It's your broker that ultimately executes the order once it receives it from Sierra Charts. So to answer your question, 1) Yes, your market order with the stop will be active regardless whether Sierra Charts is running or crashed. In the case of Sierra Charts crashing, provided that Sierra Charts crashed AFTER the order was sent to your broker, that order will be on your broker's server and the stop will be triggered according to the market. If Sierra Charts crashed BEFORE or the order was sent and received by your broker, then it's hard to say, your order MAY not have been transmitted. The transmission of the order is instant; once it's sent it's up to your broker. 2) Yes once the order is sent to Gain and received by your broker, I would believe you would be able to see the order on the Gain platform. That's what happens with my broker. As soon as my broker receives my order that was sent by Sierra Charts, I see it immediately on the broker's platform and on the broker's server the order will persist. Sierra Chart's servers do NOT hold any orders as far as I know. 3) The safety net is your order would NOT get affected regardless whether Sierra Charts or your PC crashes as your order is held in neither of those places provided it was transmitted successfully by Sierra Charts to your broker and your broker has received it in its server. The only risk that your auto trader program will stop running if Sierra Charts and/or your PC has crashed. Your auto trader program will still run even if Sierra Charts is disconnected from your broker however just so you know. As long as Sierra Charts and your charts you loaded is running, any programs that you load on your charts will be running. Hope these helps. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2017-06-29 00:45:01
