Hello Support Team,

we need to attach alert sounds permanentely to Vertical Lines to receive sound alerts on specific times. These vertical lines are supposed being part of a template visualizing and alerting upcoming economic news publications.

1.) On using Menu >> Tools >> Tool Configs >> Vertical Line Config there is no alert option.

Question 1: Would you consider adding the alert option to Tool Configs >> Vertical Line Config in a future version of SC?

2.) Applying Rightclick on Vertical Line >> Vertical Line Properties >> Button A >> Enable Alert For Chart Drawing + Alert Once Per Bar + Open + Equal to it is possible to attach an alert to Vertical Line. Unfortunately this vertical line cannot be used twice (or as an template) since the alert would not reliable be triggered on moving it to the right of the actual bar (sometimes it seems to work, more often not).

Question 2: Is it possible to use a Vertical Line and its attached alert as a preconfigured tool in order not having to create a new Vertical Line from scratch for every single news? Is there anything we might miss?

Thank you for your consideration,

Best,

Chris

In ver 1176, a number of Alert items are addressed:

* vertical line config will allow alerts to be configured
* the Alert Once and Blink Once Per Bar Options were made more reliable
* Alerts are re-allowed if the drawing is moved or adjusted (does not apply if Only Trigger Once is enabled and was triggered)

Also, there already is a toolbar option that allows custom tools to be configured. A custom tool is a Drawing Tool and Drawing Tool Config pair. When customizing a toolbar, under the Tools tree, there are entries for Custom Drawing Tool N. Add one of these to your toolbar. Then re-customize the toolbar and select the custom tool entry you just added in the Selected ToolBar Commands list, and then use the Set Custom Tool ... button to configure the Tool, Tool Config, Button Text, etc. Using this new ToolBar button will be the same as selecting the configured Tool and Tool Config in a single mouse click.

The alert settings for Vertical Line Tool can be saved with Config. However, after restarting Sierra Chart, the alert settings associated with the config for Vertical Line Tool will be gone, even though the other settings such as color can still be retrieved from that same Config.

We are curious as to how you are using the Drawing Tool Alert with a vertical line, as the parameters for the drawing alerts do not apply to a Vertical Line.

I am using it as a timer when I cannot always focus on the chart. It will send an alert in the specific future time to remind me to check the chart. After I have checked the chart, I may move the line to the next check time when I want to check the chart again. It should be the similar use case as mentioned in the first post in year 2014. It is working fine until I restart the instance and want to apply the saved config to the vertical line again which, as I have mentioned, the alert is missing.

We can reproduce what you are seeing, so we have passed this along to Engineering to look into.

In the meantime, there are "Time Alerts" that you can use to do the same thing. Refer to the following:
