Sierra Charts Crashes When Using SpreadSheets

Folks, Both '85 and '91 keep crashing on me. I can make changes to my studies without a crash occurring. Also, '91 shows a horizontal line at price = 0, which I have exist nowhere in my calculations. This renders '91 unusable to me. The last stable version for me was '81. However, for whatever reason, I am no longer able to revert back to '81 via the installer. How can I fix the situation? |

The first thing we want you to do is to run Sierra Chart in Safe Mode to see if this resolves the issue: Sierra Chart - Software Login Instructions: Using Safe Mode This could also be due to a Windows 10 issue related to graphics. Thanks for the responses. Safe mode: no change '85 and '91 still crash crash: defined as SC shuts down and does not restart. This only happens when I adjust parameters in my studies (i.e. add/delete a study, click apply to register changes, click OK) horizontal line at price = 0: I am confident that I do not have a study/spreadsheet/horizontal line here. In fact, '91 prints a line and p=0, and '85 prints another combination of lines. spreadsheet studies: yes, i use multiple spreadsheet studies and spreadsheets for trade management. I overlay studies from one time frame onto another time frame (ie. 1D study overlayed on 15M chart). As an FYI: I reverted back to 1781 and all problems above are cleared. No issues. |

When you say "defined as SC shuts down and does not restart. ", does Sierra Chart just completely disappear, or do you get a message from Windows that says something like "Sierra Chart has encountered a problem and needs to shut down"? This is an important distinction for us. If it completely disappears, this would indicate a stack corruption in our experience. And when you add or remove a study can you tell us what study that is and on what chart number, so that we can reproduce it. Still no problem with the testing after about half a day of testing. Your charts and spreadsheets are running just fine. We are testing with the Sierra Chart 64-bit build under the debugger. We will also use our release build after a day or two. So not really sure what the problem is at this point. Update: Still no problem after running throughout the entire day. The last time we heard about a problem like this and were not able to reproduce it, it was due to an unhandled out of memory condition. But all out of memory conditions should be properly handled. Perhaps we can skype and I can show you want I see on my end. I just tried '93 and the issue of a horizontal line appearing at P=0 still remains. Yes, I have erased all drawing from each chart tab. Also, this line does not appear in 1781. can we skype? |

Thus far through my testing, version '94 seems to have corrected all the issues I was having. I'll continue to test this version through my live trading tomorrow to confirm that no issues arise. Whatever reversion was done on the spreadsheets seems to have worked. Horizontal lines at P=0 (and elsewhere) no longer appear. I've also noticed several performance improvements throughout SC - thank you. All that said, one issue arose during my initial tests. I mention this last because I haven't been able to replicate the issue, but it's worth mentioning: upon recalculating spreadsheets (and also after clicking Apply on Tools/Studies), I've noticed that SC deleted formulas from one of my spreadsheets. I copy/pasted the formulas from a prior version of the spreadsheet and SC accepted the insertion. I'm uncertain as to why SC would have deleted the formulas in the first place. This may be worth noting. Again, repasting the formulas worked, so this is not currently an issue. |

Good question. No. Typically, when I make that mistake the referencing spreadsheet is entirely blank. In this instance, the formula source sheet remained consistent with prior versions, but simply deleted all the formulas that previously existed. Said differently, i did not change the formula source sheet upon reloading into '94. However, you are right. It's as if SC recognized another sheet as the formula source sheet, then deleted my formulas, and left the spreadsheet blank.

Happy to do the same if helpful for your purposes. For me, this happens upon: 1) Clicking Apply/OK on Tools/Studies 2) Reload and Recalculating the chart (Insert) My initial explanation was that SC somehow "switched" or "misread" the Formula Source Sheet, and hence deleted all formulas upon refresh. However, this explanation fails as the issue still occurs when I delete all spreadsheets except for the correct Formula Source Sheet. 64b version. |
