Looking to create an alert for when the Heiken Aski bars change from red to green, or from green to red. Any ideas on where to begin? My attempts so far have been unsuccessful.

This depends upon the method of color coding of the bars. In general you need to look at the Open (O) and Close (C) values for the current bar and the prior bar and use these values in the alert condition formula.
