I've attached 3 charts below. The First is from SC Version 1620 showing a GC chart. The Renko Bars paint very closely to NinjaTrader Bars which I've included in the 3rd attachment. The 2nd attachment is from SC version 1624. The Renko bars now paint additional bars in place of the old behavior and the NT behavior which was to paint a wick higher or lower instead of another bar. I've highlighted a number of areas on the SC Charts for comparison. I don't know what the "correct" behavior should be just that it's not consistent with the former bars nor with competitors Renko implementation. In addition, the changes have also affected the MA relationship on all my charts. Is this a result of the additional bars being created instead of wicks or is something else at play? I'm more concerned about this than the additional bars because it does not align with other charts well any longer and after you released the UniRenko Bar Size-Offset-Reversal options recently everything finally aligned almost perfectly with other platform charts. Of course I can continue to use version 1620 for now but I wanted to highlight these differences in case they were unintentional outcomes of your Renko rewrite. Thanks much....Scott |

We verified that Universal Renko bars function as documented here: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/RenkoCharts.html#UniversalRenkoBars Change the settings to see if you can get a match to what you had previously. We would expect that you should be able to do this. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Support, I did what you requested and double checked my settings to the instructions you linked. First, my basic Renko settings did not change from the previous version to the current version (in the case of the GC chart I posted) 4 tick bar, 2 tick offset and 6 tick reversal (see attached image). I've changed back and forth a dozen times now between version 1620 and 1624 comparing the bars and they just do not form the same way. Secondly, if you look at the image below which I took on version 1624 to show my current settings, you can see the extra bars formed in the upper left that I've circled. Compare that image to the 1620 version I posted earlier. You can see the additional bars created in 1624 that do not exist in 1620 in both circled areas. Lastly, this time when I went into my chart settings after reloading version 1624, I selected CandleStick Bars under Graph Draw Type which I hadn't done after you applied the changes the other day when the bars would just disappear after updating to the Pre-release when you first removed the Renko with Wicks selection. THIS time when I selected Candlestick Bars the physical weight of the painted Renko Bars DID change slightly the look of each individual bar. Before I did that they were heavier or wider. Selecting the CandleStick Bar removed a pixel or 2 and they look typical in appearance to what I expect each candle to look like. Again, this changed the look of each bar, but did not change the way the bars are formed or painted on the chart. In image 2 and 3 I've attached a chart to show the fatter bars in the first image and after applying CandleStick bars in the second image showing the thinner bars as they normally are. Just FYI Is there another setting we're potentially missing that I'm unaware of that might affect this? I expect slight differences between different platforms based on data feed etc, but this goes beyond that since I'm comparing it to different versions of the same platform. Thanks much Date Time Of Last Edit: 2017-10-17 18:34:30

Support, was Pre-release version 1625 supposed to address Renko Bar formation in addition to the change back to Renko Bars with Wicks? If so, the bars are still forming differently than version 1621 and prior. See Attachments below if so. Thanks -- Scott |

Yes. But just update again with Help >> Download Prerelease to make sure you have the latest revision. We have made some updates to the documentation here: https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/RenkoCharts.html#UniversalRenkoBars Please review them. The way that we are going to approach this, is comparison to the documentation and to what what makes sense. These are the only two definitive points of reference. We cannot guarantee, that you are going to see the same thing as a prior version and definitely we cannot guarantee that you will see the same thing as ninja. We do not want you to be insistent on either of these things. Otherwise, we have to discontinue support on this. So in the end, this is just what we have to offer unless we can see there is an inconsistency with the documentation. Also at this point, we have confidence in what we are offering relative to the documentation. So at this point, there is no further work we will do and this is now considered finalized. Understand that the Universal Renko bar implementation previously was not as thoroughly implemented as the new rebuild of Renko bars in the newer versions. All three Renko bar types now use a common code base. What is the Chart >> Chart Settings >> Session Times >> Start Time set to? And do you have New Bar at Session Start enabled? We will then provide you an image of what we see. Although this is what we currently see on 2017-10-16 (portion of day. US Eastern time.) using a Start Time of 0:00:00 and New Bar At Session Start: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508445317487.png It is also a good idea for you to set the Graph Draw Type to Candlesticks so that you can actually see the true Open and Close values so you can have an understanding of the manipulations be done with these types of bars. From our perspective these manipulations do not make any sense to begin with. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. This is what we see for CLZ17 using the same Universal Renko bar settings: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508461976478.png Not like what you showed in post # 5. The thing is, the newer version does not change anything which would cause any significant difference in this case. Set Sierra Chart to a Tick by Tick Data Configuration: Tick by Tick Data Configuration Although even with 1 second data we did not see what you showed either. In regards to post #5, we think we know what area in the Renko bar chart you are referring to. This particular area: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508465716434.png We did not get the date right. We were looking at 10-18 instead of 10-17. Anyway, this is definitively handled correctly in the current version (1625). It has to do with this particular tick by tick data: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508465165802.png Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Comparing 1621 with the current pre-release of 1621, using the same 30 days of ESZ17 tick data and the same chartbook (attached) When I do a Flex Renko 8-7-1, the comparisons are similar. 1621: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508492031837.png 1625: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508491993694.png When I do a Flex Renko 80-79-1, the comparisons are not close. 1621: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508491835722.png 1625: http://www.sierrachart.com/image.php?Image=1508491896207.png Cheers, Dale |

You need to disable New Bar at Session Start in Chart >> Chart Settings. We are sure there is not a problem with Flex Renko bars in 1625. We are not here to make Renko bars work exactly like they did in the prior version. Do not count on that. We are here to properly implement Renko bars according to specifications and according to how Sierra Chart normally creates chart bars. Please understand that. They are properly implemented at this time. That we are certain of. If there is an issue, the charts you provided do not provide any evidence of that because we cannot use a comparison to what existed previously as a basis. The basis must be an explanation of the underlying tick by tick data, in relation to the documentation and what you then see with the current version for Flex Renko bars. The previous implementation of Renko bars had at least one issue, and was not a proper implementation. It was done by one of our other programmers who is no longer with us and who did not implement these consistent with other chart bars in Sierra Chart, and the code was not of the best quality to put it kindly. It had to be rewritten. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Other responses are from users. Try to keep your questions brief and to the point. Also a setting of 80-79-1 makes no sense. This is not even close to even being reasonable. Our time is very valuable here. We cannot spend any time on this. The problem here is you are jumping into another users thread about Universal Renko bars which are different compared to Flex Renko bars which you are showing images of, providing multiple chart images which take our time to look at for a nonsensical configuration, and making a comparison to something that was not fully properly implemented before and want us to spend time on it. We cannot do that. It is not the point whether there is a match to what was previously. What matters, is that the bars are properly formed in the current version, 1625, and they all are. At this point we are locking the thread. The point is we cannot spend time on this, we are confident what we are providing is accurate and actually we did take the time to verify that what you currently see within the 80-79-1 Flex Renko setting is correct and what was previously being shown was wrong. Also the setting of 80-79-1, only exemplifies the nonsense behind Flex Renko to begin with. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support.
