Volume by Price Study Causes Sierra Chart Interface Lag

After applying the Volume by Price Study to my YM/MYM tick-based chart, and while configuring the study's settings and input values, the Sierra Chart platform (inside my active YM/MYM chartbook only) began to lag and slowdown almost immediately. More specifically, platform chart movement and my computer's mouse cursor response time decreased from instantaneously to roughly a 7 to 10 second delay before the chart or cursor pointer would move. Subsequent attempts to click on the chart resulted in the same outcome and/or a "Not Responding" prompt that displayed along the chart's title bar. I immediately closed that particular chartbook and opened a separate pre-filled tick-based chartbook that did not contain the Volume by Price Study. There was no lag-time and all charting/keyboard responses were instantaneous. I returned to the original chartbook, deleted the Volume by Price Study, at which point charting/keyboard responses were instantaneous again. I'm left with the conclusion that the Volume by Price Study is somehow the culprit. Fyi, while trying to troubleshoot this matter, I read a message that was posted last month (August 2026) on the Sierra Chart Support Board by one of your engineers announcing a planned modification to the Volume by Price Study and that it was somehow being reconfigured similar to the Zig Zag Study. Not sure if that has anything to do with my issue but thought it was worth mentioning here. Please help me resolve this issue, as it is definitely problematic for trading and I suspect others may soon (if not already) have the same unfortunate experience. Respectfully, ARC1Trader |

What do you mean by "tick-based chart"? If this is a "1 Trade" chart, then that creates a large load to start with, and then adding the Volume by Price would also increase the load. So what you are stating would not be surprising for that kind of chart. This has nothing to do with the changes to support Volume by Price profiles based on Zig Zag. Please explain what a "1 Trade Chart" is, as I am unclear of your reference. As far as my description of "tick-based", the chart is configured where price movement is calculated/measured in "1 tick" increments. I routinely utilize other Sierra Chart native Studies in my trading charts without any issues; however, Volume by Price is the only Study that directly causes the lag/delay that I described. So are you saying Sierra Chart has no solution for this?

What are the following set to: - Chart >> Chart Settings >> Bar Period >> Bar Period Type - Chart >> Chart Settings >> Bar Period >> Bar Period Value There are going to be things you can do with Sierra Chart that are going to make your system lag. We do not prevent this from occurring, as we can not. Everyone has different hardware, so when this would occur differs for everyone. So at some point, there is no solution, except for you to update your hardware. But even then, you may still have the same issue, depending on what you are doing.
