Is there a way to drag or resize a without changing height

Dear Support I've never found an way to lock the height before dragging or resizing a rectangle to change its width (length) without the current method in most cases changing its height at the same time. On platforms I used many years back there was often a lock feature such as shift then select object etc. Is there a similar method I've missed? Many thanks. |

There is not a way to do this. When you modify a drawing, you are selecting one of the Anchor points, and for a rectangle, these are are the corners, so you are moving in both directions. We have noted this as a Feature Request, to have some way to modify a rectangle without changing the height. We can not say when we would get to any particular request. What User708541 states will work. We had forgotten that you can select the rectangle and select those points. You do have to have your Drawing Tool set to "Pointer", "Crosshair" or "Hand", and first left-click in the rectangle on the left 1/3 or right 1/3, then you can grab an edge and drag it.

Thank you both but neither solution works. Whether selecting with left click pointer etc, or shift + click the rectangle will still re-size. Granted if you have a rectangle with a centre dot i.e., 3,5,7 etc dots, but not with an even number. In most window programs User708541 is correct and using shift will also create a straight line from a sloping line. Really useful. Unfortunately, in Sierra, this doesn't work. We are not understanding this. With a Rectangle/Extending Rectangle, if you have the "Pointer", "Crosshairs", or "Hand" tool selected along with the setting for "Tool >> Tool Settings >> General >> Support Left Click to Select Chart Drawings" set to "Yes", then you can select the rectangle and grab one of the points on the "edge" and then change just that edge. We do not see how the number of points that displays on the edge has anything to do with how this functions. How is this not working for you? Unfortunately, in Sierra, this doesn't work. With the "Line" tool active, hold down the "Ctrl" (Control) button to force the line to be horizontal or vertical (i.e. it will only allow for 0, 90, 180, and 270 degree locations).
