v2879.

File - Open time and sales window.
Settings - Attach/detach window
Settings - Always On Top - enable

That works to keep the window on top of other windows as expected.

Save all settings, close Sierra, and open Sierra.

The time and sales window opens, detached and with always on top enabled as expected, but the window does not stay on top. It just acts like any regular window and gets covered by other windows when they are brought to the foreground. Press Settings - Attach/detach window twice, and the window now stays on top again.

Is there another setting to get this to stick?

Please see attached video. It is reproducible every time for me.

I found the exact failure mode here.

If a second Sierra instance is opened while the first instance (with time and sales) is still in the process of opening, the t/s window fails to set always on top. Reproducible every time.

If the second instance is delayed until the first is fully done opening, the t/s window sets its always on top state and works properly.

We have looked into this, and we have verified, that the always on top state for the Time and Sales window it is implemented properly and we cannot reproduce any problem.

For an issue like this:
If a second Sierra instance is opened while the first instance (with time and sales) is still in the process of opening, the t/s window fails to set always on top. Reproducible every time.

If the second instance is delayed until the first is fully done opening, the t/s window sets its always on top state and works properly.
This is strictly an operating system issue that Sierra Chart would have no control over. The windows operating system in your particular case is simply malfunctioning. It is simply malfunctioning. This is not, a problem of Sierra Chart at all.

Okay thanks for the info.

Based on your insight, I did some more testing.

The original system is Windows 11 version 10.0.22631.

I just tested on a separate Windows 11 10.0.26100 and it behaves the same way.

It is possible that both installations suffer from the same local unique malfunction.

Could it also be possible Windows 11 has some bug across versions making it misbehave? But in that case, this should be repeatable for everyone using these Win11 versions.

For now as a workaround, I modified my startup batch file to put in a delay after starting the first instance. This way, its t/s always starts on top properly (on top of it's own chart instance, and all instances that open after).

We do not know what of windows version, has this problem but clearly it is operating system specific. That there is no doubt about that. Also we cannot reproduce this.

We do know though from experience that problems like this began with windows 8. Not necessarily specifically this, but various window and display issues.

I just tested this on Linux through Wine 9.0, and the t/s window is set to always on top every time, without needing any delay.

Linux in this case does literal windows better than Windows.

We have noticed that as well in our recent testing of Sierra Chart on Wine on Linux.
