Hi, I’ll apologise in advance for this question.
Ok so i really want to learn SC, it is NOT easy, but when people say it is the best, it is worth trying, so that’s me.
So i want to trade momentum breaks, typically a/hours and early session.
I get a stock on a scanner, type it in toe a chart,i have 3 charts linked 10sec, 1 min and a daily.

Here is where I’m questioning ?

It can take a few seconds, more maybe, but it feels like forever in comp to other platforms - TV, tradeZero etc
By the time it loads, the move/entry has passed.

By no means am i saying it is SC fault or that it is inferior in any way.
I understand it has to download the data etc and maybe that is teh question right there ?

Is my settings loading too much data ?

Please provide some assistance for me, i would, based on many high level reviews like to persist with SC, but right now its not working for me :(

Ian.

First all, I am one of those "people", Sierra IS THE BEST.

The reason our charts take a little while to load, is that, Sierra downloads historical data to our local hard drive, files with extension .scid. before display anything on the Chart. Compare to TV, which is web based, all the data are on their server. My solution is, I just get up a few seconds earlier.

Having data on my local drive is great, for analysis and replay after market is closed.

Sierra is not necessarily difficult, I was overwhelmed by sheer number of options when I started to use Sierra, but once I got used to them, I realized how great it is. Especially after I learned how to code with Sierra's ACSIL.

Cheers,

Hey Tony, yes I should have included that I am aware of the download that occurs, essentially almost every time you open a ticker.
And I agree with you on all your points.
I too am trying, I guess I'm searching for or maybe just seeking confirmation that this is how it is ?

I have adjusted intra day data to 1 or 2 etc

Watched lots of videos on the topic as well.

I was hoping for someone to say something like, oh you can download every symbols data in advance etc

Wishful thinking :-)

Not wishful thinking, I am actually doing it, not every day, only when there will be important events, for example, if I knew there will be Non-Farm Employment data or FOMC events tomorrow morning, I would leave my computer on and all the charts running before I go to bed tonight, so, when I get up tomorrow morning, everything will be ready, no downloading at all, because market data has been streaming since previous night, everything is up to date.

Yeah this in itself is apart of the issue for me.

The scammer will present a ticker, any ticker based on the set criteria.
Not sector based, not industry based etc.

Making it almost impossible to pre load anything's

Also, I'm not solely basing this on TV comparisons

I am sorry, I don't understand the scammer part, how can a scammer has access to Sierra Chart, can you elaborate? Do you think you have a virus on your computer? Are you using Windows by the way?

I see, you run the scanner every morning to find stocks you want trade on that particular day, now, I fully understand your frustration. The download time is definitely longer than just few seconds. I bet you probably jump on multiple stocks in the morning too. I only trade one product, which is S&P 500 Futures, less stressful for sure.

My personal opinion, I think Sierra is more for Futures products (my conclusion of Sierra being the best of the best is also based on that assumption), trading stocks usually heavily rely on fundamentals, for that part, Sierra does not necessarily give you an advantage. I think Sierra is a high-end professional platform for technical traders.

I could be wrong (I'm pretty ignorant of both software and trading), hopefully other stock traders would see this post and share their experiences.

So your scanner, on some other software, gives you a ticker, say ABCD. Now you want to enter and manage your trades on Sierra Chart correct? So you have to open ABCD as quickly as possible? And you've never had this symbol on your charts before? In that case, I would tell Sierra to only load maybe 20 minutes of data on your 10 second chart, 60 minutes of data on your 1 min chart and maybe 60 days on the daily chart. Do you need a daily chart if you are on the 10 second time frame? Ditch that for even quicker response time. You set this up this for each chart under the Chart Settings > Data Limiting section. Now your charts will load lighting fast.

There is the following option that will have the system downloading the data for specified symbols, but if you are scanning a large number of symbols then this may not really be the solution:
Global Settings Menu: Intraday File Update List (Global Settings menu)
For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service:
Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing
