It has been a known issue that the Chat functionality and all of the other related functionality: Chat and Communications Platform Has had an issue when Sierra Chart is run under Wine. You would need to use Wine when using Sierra Chart on Linux, or Crossover on a Mac. The problem is, when you open the chat window, the chat becomes nonresponsive and the whole program becomes nonresponsive. Like there is some kind of deadlock going on. We believe the problem always had to do with the fact that the chat runs on a separate thread. And there is some issue within Wine when another user interface within the program is running on another thread. There is now this option that is coming out in the next release that will be out September 4, 2025: Global Settings >> General Settings >> GUI >> Use Secondary Thread for Chat (Default and Recommended): Yes/No If you are using Wine you will want to set this to No and restart Sierra Chart after. A restart is necessary. Also screen sharing is being redeveloped by us, and is currently disabled. It should be out in about a week. Prerelease 2792 has now been released with all the latest updates related to this. It also supports direct peer to peer screen sharing (in other words from one user's computer to another user's computer). All of the connectivity options are under the Remote menu of the chat window. There is still some more work we need to do to ensure the best performance and the best colors. But it is now functional. Although we need to document this. Regarding the chat window, and related functionality, not working on Linux, we thought we had that resolved, as explained in the first post, but we did not. We now know the reason for the problem. We are resolving this now. It has to do with how word wrap calculations were done. There was an OS function we were using, that was not working as expected under Wine. Still, the programming of the related code was not the best design, by the programmer who did this and we are developing a proper solid solution. In version 2855 and higher, the chat functionality, File >> Open Chat Window, now works properly on Linux/Wine. Documentation: Chat and Communications Platform We still have to resolve the problem with screen sharing under Wine, but that should be resolved by next week.
