Hi guys, I am using IB trade service for trading stocks in a dedicated installation of Sierra. I entered a bunch of symbols, without having Nasdaq option for Denali, and Sierra takes forever to download the data, or it just waits in the middle of the process and doesn't download it at all even after 15 minutes. I know this is not Sierra's problem, as I had this issue with IB (in a different Sierra installation) before I activated Denali for futures trading. In case I subscribe to Nasdaq market data in the future, will it be using Nasdaq data when I view IB-formatted stock symbols, e.g. HOOD-STK-SMART-USD, or will it try to get the data via IB? This sounds to me like it could potentially solve the issues above, but I would kindly ask you to confirm that (similar as with futures...) using IB trading service + Denali data (for stocks) will work. UPDATE: same question for stock options. Thank you in advance for your replies. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-07-25 16:27:36

For stocks, you need to enter the symbol for the data you want to get from our Denali Exchange Data Feed. So if you are using the NASDAQ TotalView, the symbol would be the standard ticker with the -NQTV (such as IBM-NQTV); if you are using the U.S. Equities Consolidated Tape, then it would be the standard ticker (IBM). Then, you need to enter the IB symbol in the "Trade and Current Quote Symbol" and you need to set the option for "Use as Trade Only Symbol" to "Yes". This is different from how Futures work, where we have a translation behind the scenes for the IB futures symbol to the data needed from our Denali Exchange Data Feed. Note that we do not have stock options data, so that data you would need to get from IB by entering the appropriate symbol in the "Symbol" field. Refer to the following for how to add symbol settings for the "Trade and Current Quote Symbol" so when you select a specific stock, the Trade and Current Quote Symbol can be automatically filled in for what you need: Global Symbol Settings: Trade/Quote Symbol For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Understood, thanks John. Regarding options support in Sierra in general, it is pretty weak/afterthought. Is this intentional from your side, or you simply don't have the resources available to make a proper Options chain and the other features to make Sierra really useful as a self-contained application for options trading? It is simply a business decision. We do not believe that there is enough business for us to put the time/effort into it along with the continuing support.
