I'm trying to refine an existing spreadsheet for trading for use with a new, cleaner chart. To make my life "easier", I go to original chart and press "Set Defaults" so that study settings are the same when I add the SSforTrading to Chart2. I make a copy of the original spreadsheet in the file system because I've gone down this rat hole before and I don't want to spend hours rebuilding from scratch. In Chart2, I create a new SSForTrading study. I reference the new copy of the spreadsheet from chart 1. IN THE STUDY SETTINGS, FORMULA SOURCE SHEET NUMBER IS 9, SHEET NAME IS SHEET9. Just as it should, since that was the default I just set. SO WHY IN THE WORLD IS THE NEW CHART POPULATING SHEET 1?! Maddening.

If you duplicate the original chart, it will assign the next available Chart#, and add a Sheet# of the same number. All settings will follow. SO WHY IN THE WORLD IS THE NEW CHART POPULATING SHEET 1?! By default, the Sheet# matches the Chart#, regardless of the Formula Source Sheet Number setting. In Chart2, I create a new SSForTrading study. If you want a differently named spreadsheet file on Chart2, with the same settings as the original, do this: 1) Duplicate the original chart (that has the spreadsheet study.) 2) Focus the spreadsheet, go to File >> Save As, and give it a new name. -You'll get a dialog box asking if you want to save to the new name. Click Yes. 3) Focus the chart, go to the spreadsheet study settings, enter the new name in the Spreadsheet Name field, or select it by pressing the Select button. Press OK and OK.

Thanks for taking the time, Sawtooth. I don't want to duplicate the chart, I want to duplicate only the spreadsheet. I just tried to go back and do as you suggested, and added the SSForTrading. Since it loaded with my previously saved defaults, I clicked Reset Defaults. This did nothing and it kept the default settings I had previously saved. So I manually changed the referenced sheet from 9, Sheet9 to 1, Sheet1 and deleted Sheet9, leaving only Sheet1 in the Spreadsheet file. Ultimately, I managed to migrate forward but I have to say that as much as I enjoy tinkering with SC - and I really do - the spreadsheets are just soo painful sometimes.

I don't want to duplicate the chart, I want to duplicate only the spreadsheet. Then create a Study Collection of only the spreadsheet study, and apply it to the new chart. However, you may need to change the name of the spreadsheet. - If you want the same settings, and use the same formulas on another chart in the same chartbook, you would just dupe the original chart. A new sheet will be created whose number matches the new chart's number. The Formula Source Sheet Number will be the same but you'll need to change the symbol. If you don't change the symbol, they could interact and cause undesired issues. - If the new chart is in the same chartbook, and you are using different formulas than the original, change its Formula Source Sheet Number to match the new chart#. - If you want the same settings, and use the same formulas on another chart that is not in the same chartbook, the new spreadsheet file should have a unique name. If both chartbooks are open at the same time, using the same-named spreadsheet, the formulas could interact causing unwanted issues. In summary: - By default, the Sheet# matches the Chart#. - The Formula Source Sheet Number setting is a critical setting. - The spreadsheet of the same formulas needs a unique name if simultaneously used in another chartbook.
