Additional Language Support

Instructions

Follow these steps to translate the Sierra Chart menus to the desired language.

  1. Make sure that The Language for non-Unicode programs in Windows is set to your desired language.
  2. Exit from Sierra Chart.
  3. Download the appropriate MenuCustomizations.xml from the Available Translations section below, and save it to the Sierra Chart program folder. Usually C:\SierraChart.
  4. Start Sierra Chart and you will see the translated names on the menu.

Individual menu items can be customized following the Customize Menu Items instructions.

Available Translations

Follow the Instructions above, to use any of the following Translations.

Revert To English

Follow these steps to revert the Sierra Chart menus to the desired language.

  1. Exit from Sierra Chart.
  2. Delete the MenuCustomizations.xml file the Sierra Chart program folder. Usually C:\SierraChart.
  3. Start Sierra Chart and you will see the names on the menu revert back to English.

Setting the Language For Non-Unicode Programs in Windows

To have the menus show up correctly in the desired language, you need to make sure that the Language for non-Unicode programs in Windows is set to the required language.

Follow the steps below to setup the Language for non-Unicode programs in Windows:

  1. In Windows, open the Control Panel and click the Clock, Language, and Region link.
  2. Click on Region and Language.
  3. Go to the Administrative tab.
  4. Within the Language for non-Unicode programs frame click on Change system locale....
  5. Select your language within the drop down.
  6. Click OK.
  7. You may be prompted to restart your computer. If you do, then restart the computer safely.

Adding a New Translation

  1. Generate a new DefaultMenuCustomizations.xml File
  2. Make sure that The Language for non-Unicode programs in Windows is set to your desired language.
  3. Use your favorite text editor to edit the file. We recommend NotePad++.
  4. Add your translation within the custom section. As such:

  5. Validate that the file using an online XML validator, such as the following XML Validator. And fix any issues.
  6. If Sierra Chart is already running, then exit. Rename the DefaultMenuCustomizations.xml file to MenuCustomizations.xml. When you run Sierra Chart, the menus will be translated as specified in the MenuCustomizations.xml file.
  7. Optional: If you want to share the translation with the Sierra Chart user base, then submit the new translation by making a posting on the Support Board.

Generating the DefaultMenuCustomizations.xml File

Starting with Sierra Chart version 1737, it is possible to generate a default menu customizations XML file from within Sierra Chart to allow the editing of each and every menu command within the program with a custom name. This allows for easy direct editing of an XML. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select General Settings >> Customize Menu Items.
  2. Click on the Write Default Menu Cutomizations to File button.
  3. Click OK to close the dialog.
  4. The file will be saved to the Sierra Chart program folder, the location will also be shown within the Message Log.
