There is not a native app for Sierra Chart for MAC. It only works with Windows. You would need to run an emulator in order to run Sierra Chart on a MAC. This is not something we can help with as it is not something we do. There are several posts in this Support Board on the use of Sierra Chart on a MAC. You are free to peruse or post new and ask for help from the community. Once you have a Windows emulator (e.g. Parallels, Fusion, Crossover) you can run the Sierra Chart installer. If you have an older Intel x86 Mac, you run SierraChart_64.exe. If you have a newer Apple ARM-Based Mac (M1, M2, etc.) then you run SierraChart_ARM64.exe. If you have custom studies that were not built for ARM, then they won't load. In that case you would need to run the normal SierraChart_64.exe. There will be a slight performance impact when you do this, as it will be converting x86 instructions to ARM instructions. I note that I am using an M4 Pro MacBook Pro with CrossOver, and I cannot use the ARM-based executable SierraChart_ARM64.exe. I have updated my version of Sierra chart to the latest a few times since I started using it and every time I try to use the ARM executable I get an error that says "Invalid handle" and after I click OK I get another error pop-up that says "There is no Windows program configured to open this type of file". See attached images. I would love to clear this problem so that I can assess the difference in performance between the executable I am using, which seems to work fine, and the ARM executable. Any help from the community would be gratefully accepted. |

I am not a Mac expert, but it appears that Crossover only supports x86 Windows apps and is not compatible with ARM applications. I have had success on my M4 Mac Mini running VMWare Fusion and installing the ARM version of Windows 11. You can then run the ARM version of Sierra chart. |

Yes, I believe you are correct. My research has revealed the same. Your route is one way of dealing with the situation, but I would like to know if the overhead of running VMware Fusion negates the advantages of running the ARM version. I had thought to pursue that direction, but to use Boot Camp and run Sierra Chart on Boot Camp to achieve the best possible performance. Unfortunately, my enquiries reveal that Apple does not support Boot Camp on Apple Silicon processors. Boot Camp is only available on Intel-based Macs. So, virtualisation software such as Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion is the answer to run Windows 11 for ARM on M-series Macs. Windows 11 ARM edition runs in a virtual machine and can emulate many Intel apps, though with some limitations and overhead. All things considered, running Sierra Chart with CrossOver seems to be an excellent and simple solution, and I am honestly not noticing any performance problems whatsoever. The only possible negative I have noticed (and it may not have much—if any—impact) is that I see the following in the log a lot: 2025-04-26 04:41:26.478 | File compression not supported on file system... Windows error code 50: Request not supported. If this is having any impact on performance, I have no way to tell, but so far, I have not noticed anything. Date Time Of Last Edit: 2025-04-26 04:52:55
