What is the minimum OpenGL version for Sierra Chart?

Hi What is the minimum OpenGL used by Sierra Chart? I ask this because I'm trying to figure out virtualization in my trading environment. Parallels and Crossover's OpenGL version is 4.1, which is passed directly from MacOS. However, VMWare Fusion's OpenGL version is emulated and it's 4.3. It seems Sierra Chart detects OpenGL properly on VMWare Fusion only, so I was wondering if there's some kind of minimum OpenGL specification in place. I combed through the documentation but I have not seen anything regarding this. I appreciate your help! |

I'm guessing this is just a OpenGL 4.1 vs 4.3 thing and that OpenGL 4.1 is unsupported, but I'm not 100% sure.

Interesting question. Have you ever been able to use "use openGL for chart graphics" while emulating on a mac? I have attempted various times with different methods and never been successful (setting reverts back to unchecked after Sierra restart). Any insight shared would be greatly appreciated. Best. |

That's quite strange. What are your thoughts as to why Sierra Chart does not detect OpenGL properly on Parallels? It works properly on VMWare Fusion. - Do you know if there is any way to increase the level of logging to see whether OpenGL has been detected? - Is it looking for a specific string for the version, or the GLSL version? If you could verify with engineering, I would appreciate it. VMWare Fusion (this works) - https://gist.github.com/brettgoulder/2803d1710ca3a7f9f9eecff75924a409 Parallels 20 (this does not work) - https://gist.github.com/brettgoulder/ce448722269603329d741c4787f69e70 VMWare's GLSL version is 4.30 Parallel's GLSL version 4.10 I appreciate all your help! |

We have implemented a potential solution for this. There will be a new compatibility option for OpenGL in Global Settings >> Graphics Settings >> Other. We are releasing this now.

Excellent, I just want to double check, should both "Use Compatible OpenGL Profile" and "Use OpenGL for Chart Graphics" be checked, or just "Use Compatible OpenGL Profile"?

Unfortunately it's not detecting OpenGL, and only "Use Compatible OpenGL Profile" is staying checked. Let me know if I can get you any more debugging information.

Same here. Only "Use Compatible OpenGL Profile" remains checked after restart. Running Sierra on an M1 MBP via Wine. |

seandunaway, that's due to being on the ARM build. It's not disabled (but still not working) on the x64 build.

@Sierra Chart Engineering - I just wanted to check whether this was still on your radar. It doesn't seem like that compatibility profile fix worked. Let me know if I can provide anymore debugging help. Thanks! |

Yes we know it did not work. We have not had time to get back to this. This is one of these things that is not well understood and easily resolved and we have higher priorities.
