The Gray area is below the Market price (Bids) and the Yellow area is above the Market price (Asks). You can control these colors with the following setting and the one below it: Customizing Fonts, Colors, Line Styles, and Widths for Chart Trading, Chart DOM, and Trade DOM: Trade DOM Ask Background Note that these can be "disabled" so they are not used at all, in which case a single background color is used (Trade DOM Background Color). Yes, thank you, but I meant to be more precise: Does it have a special meaning if the grey and yellow areas meet BETWEEN two prices?

It is not going to be "between two prices". In the image you show, the current market price is 67.74. That is the price at which the split between the bid and ask is showing. It is always the current market price.
