hi, i am a new user. i see studies that compare differences between charts but please point me to a way to plot the difference between the current Last value of the study and the previous bar's Last/Close value of the study.

the new difference study should overlay onto the underlying using the same scale. the plot of this bar-difference should be a simple horizontal line on top of the underlying study. Please see the orange arrows in the attached IR/T Cumulative Delta chart for reference.

thank you

is it possible to add a long-term 'composite' Cumulative Delta study based on several years of daily data, to an intraday chart?

thank you.

1. This can be done by using the Bar Difference study and base it on another study:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ChartStudies.html#BasedOn

In the Study Settings window for the study you will need to set the Scale for it to Independent and set it to the Chart Region you want it displayed in. There are numerous Subgraph Draw Styles you can use.

2. The way to do this is to set the Intraday chart to a Continuous Futures Contract chart to load several years:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ContinuousFuturesContractCharts.html

And add the Cumulative Delta Bars study to the chart.

The way you do things in the other program is different than Sierra Chart, but you will get the same general result.

2. ok thank you. i have followed the instructions and set my charts to Cont. Futures Contract- Date Rule Rollover, Back Adjusted. i set Days to Load = 730. SC was configured for my (live account) data feed with OEC. but now i see that i am not able to connect, is this because it is the weekend?

i think i see the problem, the symbol is different. chart was using RLM-MU4, now i must use RJU14 for the SC Data Service. i am getting the hang of this i think, thanks

2. my charts are scrolling slowly now due to 730 days of tick data plus the VbP indi's. i have read the FAQ about this and understand this is a huge amount of data & processing. my question is, how do i get a composite volume profile of the last say 5 years on an intraday chart without loading that much tick data for the *composite* profile (but still loading tick data for the daily bar volume profiles)?

2. What you need to do is increase the timeframe per bar. We recommend going into Chart >> Chart Settings and setting the Days-Minutes-Seconds to 1-0-0.

but my question was, how do i get a longterm composite profile on an intraday chart? without it being slow to respond? i am using 2500 delta volume bars, not daily bars.

pardon me, i think the reason why my charts are scrolling slowly is because i linked the cursor position in 2 charts. unlinking returns performance to normal. however, this seems like a new issue. thanks

actually, that worked for my 500 delta volume per bar chart, but my 2500 is still scrolling slowly. also please advise if i can have a long term composite on an intraday chart, thanks again.

also, referring to question #1 above, how can i get CumDelta and Bar Difference (vs previous bar Close to current bar Last) lines as shown in the attached? for reference i am attaching comparable Investor RT settings for both versions of the indicator. i am trying to duplicate this setup, including its +/- 0 scale. thanks

chart was using RLM-MU4, now i must use RJU14 for the SC Data Service.
You must use the symbols that correspond to the particular Data or Trading service you are using. You will find them in File >> Find Symbol.

but my question was, how do i get a longterm composite profile on an intraday chart? without it being slow to respond? i am using 2500 delta volume bars, not daily bars.
So you are referring to Volume Profiles? Not really sure there is an answer to this. If you are loading many years of data and you want a detailed Volume Profile on a chart of a short timeframe per bar, it could be slow.

also, referring to question #1 above, how can i get CumDelta and Bar Difference (vs previous bar Close to current bar Last) lines as shown in the attached? for reference i am attaching comparable Investor RT settings for both versions of the indicator. i am trying to duplicate this setup, including its +/- 0 scale. thanks
You just need to overlay the two studies in the same region and make sure one of them has an Independent scale. This is documented here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ChartStudies.html#OverlayingStudiesOnSameChartRegion

Here is an example:

ok, i have overlayed the two studies so that the dashed green line should represent the difference between the current and the previous bar, using Independent scale. but most of these dashes are pegged to the top or bottom of the chart. please advise on how to get a proper difference representation vs the previous bar that uses the whole scale proportionately. thanks.

interestingly, instead of using CumDelta Volume Bars, if i use CumDelta Up/Downtick bars study, the issue seems resolved.

Make sure the Bar Difference study has an Independent Scale Range and set the Draw Style for its Subgraph to Bar.
