hi, i have a few questions on the subjects of intraday and swing trading;

1. i placed a trade on the dax on an intraday basis yesterday and later in the day i decided to let it run over night as a swing trade. all was good until about 8.30pm gmt my profit and loss on the trade window stopped changing. basically it stayed static with whatever figure was showing at 8.30pm. i also noticed my stop loss and take profit lines disappeared although the order line didn't. i was left unsure whether the order was still live or not till this morning when there was a change in the p&l figure. obviously this isn't ideal. what am i doing wrong? why isn't the swing trade acting the same on the trade window as an intraday trade does?

2. can i have a swing trade running in the background and still intraday trade on the same chart or do i need to start a new instance? ideally, i'd prefer to duplicate the dax charts into a new chart on the same instance i'm using?

1. We do not know. First, was the market still open at that time? If it was closed, then that is why there were no more updates.

But as to what may have occurred, you would need to check with your Broker and see if they have specific rules for holding a position overnight. Also, margins are often different and your working orders may have been closed out due to this.

2. If you want to hold multiple different positions at the same time, you would need to have different trading accounts and then use separate installations of Sierra Chart in order to manage those different accounts.

Refer to the following for how to install a second Sierra Chart:

You would have to ask your broker for certain, as that error comes from CQG - we are just passing it along.

But in general, what we can tell you that is that it is stating that one of a pair of OCO orders was not entered since the other order was rejected. In other words, since one of them could not be entered, both were not allowed.

You would need to see if there is another message regarding why the other order was rejected.

ok thanks again, i'll make an enquiry with them. are you saying that i should be able to place an order and let it run over night (with sufficient margin funds in my account) and the stop loss and take profit settings should not disappear?

i'm failing to see how one uses sierra to swing trade futures?

This is not a Sierra Chart issue. There is nothing in Sierra Chart that prevents you doing this, unless you have specifically setup items to close open positions at a certain time - which you have not done, as it would flatten your account, not just remove working orders.
