Main Sierra window disappears when I open trade window for chart

Recently I have had a problem when I try to 'Open Trade Window for Chart'. It causes the main Sierra window to disappear completely (not even showing in the taskbar). However, the Orders and Positions window and the Trade Activity Log are still visible. When I open the Task Manager, Sierra is not on my Applications tab but the process is running. The only way I can reset things is to kill the process manually and restart Sierra.

I can 'Attach Trade Window to Chart' without a problem but if I then try to separate it from the chart the same thing happens as above.

Any ideas?

Thanks

What version of Windows are you running? We do not think we have ever heard of anything like this before.

Have you tried restarting your computer.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am running Window 7 Pro. I was on build 1172 of Sierra when I posted but saw there was an update so I am now on 1174 (New Spreadsheets) and it just worked fine. It had been causing this problem even after a reboot over the past couple of weeks. I'll post here if it happens again.

I appreciate the help!

Today this happened again, including a second time after a reboot. Here is a pic of the result. I get the detached trade window, 'trade log' and 'orders and positions' windows but the main Sierra window is gone as you can see from the bottom part of the pic where I am hovering over the Sierra shortcut on my taskbar showing what windows are available. Also note that the Sierra program icon, which is usually next to the name of the window in the title bar has been replaced with the default program icon from Windows. The only way to correct this is to kill the process with the Task Manager and re-run the program.

We have no solution for this. This must be a system issue on your side.

We recommend a full and fresh reload of the operating system on your computer.

Wow, that is extreme and not worth the hassle for a detached trade window. It may in fact be a system issue, I have no way to know other than taking your word for it, but Sierra is the only program affected this way.

Thanks for trying.

So you are detaching a Trade Window from one of the chart windows which is part of the main Sierra Chart window?

We see no reason why this would matter, just wanting to get a better understanding.

Sierra Chart uses what is known as a Multiple Document Interface which is not commonly used. So we suspect something is going wrong with that at the operating system level.

Yes. If I select 'Open Trade Window' from a chart attached to the main window then the main Sierra window disappears. As a test, I also detached the chart first from the main window and selected the same command from there and it made the detached chart disappear instead. So it seems to be whichever window the command to open the trade window comes from is the one that disappears.

I have found a work around for now. If I select 'Attach Trade Window' instead of 'Open Trade Window', to make it attach to the chart first, then I can select it again (or rather deselect it by un-checking it in the menu) and it will detach from the chart without anything disappearing. So I don't think I ever need to actually use 'Open Trade Window' anymore.

There can be no doubt, that this is an operating system issue. We have never heard of anything like this.

It is very easy for you to demonstrate that it is an operating system issue. Test Sierra Chart on another computer system. This will not happen.
