Dear Sierra Chart,

I very much like your great trading software, Sierra Chart.
It is really capable, and it’s obvious that lots of work went into it.
Thanks for that.

Let me also mention my concerns – much of these are regarding the online documentation:

1)
Description of ‘Tools’ menu \ ‘Symbol Cursor On’ is completely missing from the Sierra Chart public web pages.
Even this Google search hasn’t got any result:
https://www.google.com/search?q=%22symbol+cursor%22+site%3Asierrachart.com

2)
The content of this page is quite odd, since it is completely empty:
(Table of Contents) Settings Windows >> Tool Settings
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ToolSettings.html

3)
‘Show Y Value and Time Boxes With Pointer Tool’ description is missing from the documentation.
Furthermore, I suppose it is not working properly, since when I select the Pointer tool (Alt-1), regardless of this setting the Y value (Price) and Time boxes don’t show up on the chart.
Ohh, I have just found it out that it works, but only if ‘Always on When Using Other Tools’ setting is also enabled along with this setting.
This is not documented.
If the former setting is dependent on the latter, then they would have been switched in the settings panel; ‘Always on…’ first and ‘Show… with Pointer tool’ after/below it.

4)
On the https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_Tools.html#GeneralToolOptionSettings page the description of the ‘Enable Delete Selected Drawing With Right Click’ setting appears two times at two separate bullet points (the last one and 8 bullets upwards).

The descriptions of the following settings are also missing from your online documentation web pages. Since the documentation of Sierra Chart is quite verbose and very detailed, in the light of this it’s a bit strange that there are some settings whose description is missing. You’ve included the description of lots of self-explanatory settings, but have omitted others…

5)
Tool Settings \ General \ ‘Use Compact Date Format For Drawings’ setting cannot be found in the documentation.

6)
Tool Settings \ Chart Values \ ‘Center Bars to Global Cursor Crosshair’ setting cannot be found in the documentation.

7)
Global Settings \ General Settings \ General 2 \ ‘Use Icons for ToolBar Buttons’ setting cannot be found in the documentation.
Anyway, there is no change on the ToolBar if I change this setting.

8)
Global Settings \ General Settings \ General 2 \ ‘Allow new data in unlocked fill space’ description cannot be found.

9)
Graphics Settings \ Other \ ‘Underline Chart Header Field Names’ description cannot be found.

10)
Chart Settings \ Advanced Settings \ “Include Weekend Columns Before Sunday First Quote (Include Columns With No Data)” setting cannot be found in the documentation – it is empty:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_ChartSettings.html&CAID=#IncludeWeekendColumnsBeforeSunday

11)
Chart Settings \ Advanced Settings \ “Number Of Forward Columns” setting cannot be found in the documentation.

12)
‘Edit \ Bulk Intraday Data Download’ menu command cannot be found in the documentation.

Some errors:

13)
Whether or not I enable the ‘Keep Chart Drawing Selected After Modification’ in Tool Settings, the Line which I modify the width of in the Properties panel, will not remain selected, regardless of this setting.

14) Erroneous logic for the saving of Tool Config Settings
Here is your description in (Table of Contents) Charting >> Chart Drawing Tools:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_Tools.html#SaveAsTab

Error: You click on check boxes, make your changes on e.g. TC1.
Then you SaveAs for TC2.
Even though you saved for TC2, your changes (check marks in the check boxes) remains altered for TC1 also.
If you leave the Config Settings panel with clicking OK, then your changes would be saved not only for the intended TC2 but also for TC1.

And my last concern, a question:

15)
Isn’t it possible for Sierra Chart to automatically update to the latest version of SC?
Or at least checking it and notifying the user of a newer release?

Best regards,
Arpad Orfi

We will be looking all of these over and updating the documentation.

15. Definitely not. There is a good reason for this.

We have large number of users and Sierra Chart is very sophisticated software with lots of advanced capabilities. Generally we find that more than 95% of the users do not have any issues with new versions, but some people will due to very minor changes and just sometimes people have trouble with updating for whatever reasons. So notices of new versions are infrequent.

For example, one problem with updating Sierra Chart or any program is that some firewall programs like Norton or McAfee will block Internet access from the program because the executable has changed. So inevitably when we put out an update notice, we get reports of users not being able to connect to a Data or Trading service.

13. This could be, and most likely be rather involved to solve.

14. We do not agree this is considered erroneous. This is by design. The documentation clarifies this:
