Is there a way to have an icon appear on the charts indicating corporate events such as upcoming earnings dates or prior earnings results, dividends..etc..etc

Thanks so much,

J.

This is the one I have, there may be a newer version if you go to BigMikeTrading.com, not really sure. This pulls the calendar from Forex Factory.

1) Put the EconomicEventsDisplay.dll in your SierraChart/data folder
2) Unzip the EconomicEventsDownloader_v5.1 to a directory of your choosing (must unzip for it to work)
3) Go into the extracted EconomicEventsDownloader_v5.1_executable folder and double click the jar file
4) This will create 2 txt files, future and historical
5) Update the txt files daily/weekly to make sure you have the latest calendar. The calendar can change, so I wouldn't go out two months without updating
6) Open SierraChart>>F6>>Add Custom Study>>Economic Events Display
7) Point to either the future txt file or historical txt file, if you want to see both at same time, then add two Economic Events Display studies to your chart and point to both files
8) Change the time difference for your time zone to match the Forex Factory news calendar
9) Change the other settings as desired
10) If you want a pre-warning, then add another study to your chart and set the time so it pops up an hour earlier and change the arrow/texts colors so you can see the difference

Sorry, but I don't know how to create an audible alert for advanced warning, e.g. 5 minutes before.

Hey Vegas, thanks for replying..

I'll give it a shot in the next few days to see how it goes.

This comes included with the Ameritrade TOS platform..

Again, appreciate your efforts..

Vegas, thanks for sharing this, it's excellent. Any way to set up an automatic alert 5 minutes before scheduled economic events?

This is a nearly 3-year-old study which has not been updated since then.

It would not surprise us if it is not functional at this time.

There is a developer Trade29.com who is on the recommended list here @ Sierra forums. If you reach out to An, the person who is Trade29, he did have a DLL that he shared with some of his custom indicators and one of them is an Events indicator.

Actually, the Sierrachart study still works, but the portion that downloads the data into the txt file does not. You can download this data manually by going to http://econevents.s3-website.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/ to download the events.

Be aware, the historical files have some blank rows and rows with bad data that you will need to clean up. It will work after you do this.

Attaching my cleaned up file for reference.

It would be really cool if this study were to be updated to fully function and automatically pull down the news / events data.

It's one of the few things missing from this great piece of charting / trading software and I'd hope one of you SC geniuses could get it working in an automated fashion.

Hi,

I have developed something years ago and finally got prioritized working on my infrastructure to share my studies with other SC enthusiasts. For anyone who is interested I just launched my site and give away a study that might be of use to some of you on this somewhat older thread.

You can check it out on https://www.simplesystemtrading.com /

More updates on the way.

Have great weekend.

Frederik

What an amazing idea!

Any chance this will be an official study supported by SC?

Been down the custom study road where the creator goes missing and study no longer works too many times... Thanks!

Have a little faith in me ;)
It will stay an official SST study.

I have been serving clients (part-time) for more than two years. All I do is SC. In this for the long run.

More good stuff coming for all SC users.

Frederik, I installed this the other day and it's working well. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. If you're open to input/suggestions I'd be happy to share some suggestions.

Either way...thank you!

@sstfrederik thanks!

here are a couple suggestions :)

1) add option where if added to intraday study... allow addition of VERTICAL DATE/TIME lines to be added in fill space (with text of the event name & importance). that way when the chart is scrolling, it will show up as an upcoming vertical line intersecting with price bars

2) add option to see medium AND high importance

got a #3 @sstfrederik

3) i have the study on an intraday chart. The problem happens during chart replay...

when i use chart replay, it constantly adds these messages in the "message log"

Replay 1.00X: ESH18 [CB] [M] 9 Min #3 | Study: Display Forex factory calendar news items | Making HTTP request. | 2018-02-11 21:39:23
Chart: Replay 1.00X: ESH18 [CB] [M] 9 Min #3 | Study: Display Forex factory calendar news items | Requesting forex factory calendar data from a simplesystemtrading.com server. | 2018-02-11 21:39:23 *
Replay 1.00X: ESH18 [CB] [M] 9 Min #3 | Study: Display Forex factory calendar news items | Making HTTP request. | 2018-02-11 21:39:24
Chart: Replay 1.00X: ESH18 [CB] [M] 9 Min #3 | Study: Display Forex factory calendar news items | Requesting forex factory calendar data from a simplesystemtrading.com server. | 2018-02-11 21:39:24 *
Replay 1.00X: ESH18 [CB] [M] 9 Min #3 | Study: Display Forex factory calendar news items | Making HTTP request. | 2018-02-11 21:39:25
Chart: Replay 1.00X: ESH18 [CB] [M] 9 Min #3 | Study: Display Forex factory calendar news items | Requesting forex factory calendar data from a simplesystemtrading.com server. | 2018-02-11 21:39:25 *

because these messages keep popping up, it won't even let me close the message log.

so... is it possible to disable this study during "replay chart" feature?

Thanks!

I can not imagine you need this study in a replay fashion. You can just disable the study by setting enabled to No. Can make this the default if needed.

I just found and activated this and wanted to say thanks! I've been too lazy to play with the other solution listed.

I haven't had a chance to see this in action yet (it's Saturday and waiting on the Sunday night update, if I read your blog post correctly), but want to say that it would be handy to have this in Replay, the way I use it ...

I load up my chart (180 days worth of data) and slide to an unknown day/time, then start Replay. This would keep me from having to go to Forex Factory and checking the news that day.

IMHO, this is NOT needed by most people and not worth a lot of trouble on your part, but it would be nice.

Thanks again!

Thanks for trying the study.
This study will only have the last week of events available and updates on Sunday night (GMT). It is not intended to have a capture of all past events. So your replay requirement will not be served with this study. I will think of possibly adding this. Needs some work on my data back end as well so it is not something I can do on short term. Other priorities at the moment. Still hope it serves you during the current week of trading.

Kind regards,
Frederik
