Is there is a way to import a list of symbols (I know you can do this with a Watch List) and have intraday and historical data downloaded for these symbols automatically?

Here is what I currently do each evening:
1. choose 20-30 symbols I plan to follow the next day
2. open a template Chartbook which contains 2 intraday charts, a daily chart and studies
3. change the symbol for the linked charts to a symbol I want to follow the next day
4. wait for the data to download and save as a new chartbook
5. repeat steps 2-4 for the rest of the symbols.

It would be great if there were a faster way to do this as it takes several minutes to download data for some symbols.

Thank you

You could try using Edit>>Intraday File Update list to get intraday data, then just build your daily charts using the intraday instead of historical data.

We apologize for not responding to this sooner. We have had a lot to do.

You have the basic procedure correct. You will want to use the Associated Watch List:

You are already doing this.

You will want to link the charts by Symbol. Sounds like you are doing that.

The only other thing you need to add is a Scan which will iterate through all the symbols in the watchlist and download data for them. Here is the documentation for that:

Given great question, the responses and the time since this was posted what's the latest on the best way to populate a chartbook from a list of stock symbols with the least amount of hands-on futzing about.

Would like to load both Day and Intraday charts.

The stock symbol lists can look like
this -
AAL,AAPL,BAC,BIDU,C,CAT,DAL,FCX,INTC,JPM,KO,MCD,MU,UAL,WFC

or this -
AAL
AAPL
BAC
BIDU
C
CAT
DAL
FCX
INTC
JPM
KO
MCD
MU
UAL
WFC

etc

Have any streamlining improvements been made in these quarters since the posts above? Thank you.

There has not been any updates to the basic functionality described above.

If you are wanting to ensure that you have data downloaded for a specific set of symbols, then you need to use the Intraday File Update List. Refer to the information here:
Global Settings Menu: Intraday File Update List (Global Settings menu)

In terms of viewing that data, the Associated Watch List gives an easy way to move through the charts. Refer to the information here:

Yep. In my experience, the IFUL is the way to go.

According to the documentation:

To have market depth data subscribed to for the symbol from the connected Data/Trading service, append a |MDD without any spaces to the end of the symbol. Example: MESM22|MDD.
