Looking for a clarification if there is a difference between running new instance of Sierra (file-->new instance) vs. installing a separate installation of the software on the same desktop same drive. The underlying purpose would be to chart from one copy and execute orders from another. Thank you!

It is recommended to use File >> New Instance because then the data feed is shared between the two instances.

Thank you. If I initiated a position in instance 1, created a New Instance, can I see that position and manage it in instance 2 (and return instance 1 back to sim mode)?

so if I have 2 instances (rather than 2 installations), I understand that I cannot run one in Sim and other Live (and trade in both). Is this correct? I want to be able to do exactly that - I have found that if I toggle one instance (parent or sub), it toggles the other one as well. Can you please clarify if this is means I need a second installation? If I do need a second installation, what folders/files do I need to copy after the installation complete?

With what you want to do, the main server instance of Sierra Chart can have Trade Simulation Mode disabled and sub instances can have Trade Simulation Mode enabled.

The main instance Trade Simulation Mode must not be enabled if you want to do live trading either from the main instance or a sub instance.

This is not really true like this:
- I have found that if I toggle one instance (parent or sub), it toggles the other one as well.

If you want to install another installation of Sierra Chart that can be done. And here are the instructions to copy files:
