Here at Sierra Chart we believe very much in good design practices, reliable software and services, and reliable integration with external Data and Trading services.

We want to have full control over all aspects of the software that we provide.

We have made a lot of progress in the last couple years towards this. And we are almost completely successful with this goal.

The following has been accomplished:

-Sierra Chart no longer uses any API in process components to integrate to external Data or Trading services. All integration now uses direct connections.

In some cases such as with Rithmic and TransAct, there are bridge programs which use API components. Eventually the TransAct bridge will be removed and we will use direct connectivity to TransAct.

-Dependency on the Microsoft HTTP (web browsing) operating system functions is being removed. This is almost complete. We got into serious trouble with this awful Microsoft functionality last week which prevented logins to our real-time exchange data feed for about an hour. There was also a short-term backend authorization issue at the time, but the unreliable Microsoft HTTP functions were the main cause.

The server processes which previously used these HTTP functions, no longer use them. They use our own developed HTTP functionality now. So the problem that caused that issue is now gone for good.

-We have 100% control over all source code in the Sierra Chart product.

-The new spreadsheet functionality which is faster, and which we have full control over, is almost completed.

-We now offer a complete futures and equities data feed which is integrated with Sierra Chart. And is also integrated with all of the supported trading services.

While for many of our users, none of this may seem particularly significant to you, for us this is a major step forward and puts us in a category unlike anyone else.

The next major thing we want to see happen in this industry, is the widespread adoption of the DTC protocol to create plug-and-play interoperability between trading programs like Sierra Chart and the backend data and trading services. We realize this is a difficult task, but we do believe this is achievable.

All of this development also allows us to port Sierra Chart to other operating systems more easily.

This is why there is no chance we would ever support any in process API components.

We just want to say in regards to this, how great and wonderful this is not to use these garbage API components from data and trading service providers. We have no hesitation to publicly condemn these components. They are a disgrace and an insult to competent developers.

You cannot imagine the amount of garbage we have put up with with more than a decade from these components.

Now we are completely rid of them.
