The 60 minute EMA look different when overlaid onto the 15 minute chart. Looks much choppier, stair pattern, instead of a smooth moving average. Any advice?

This is simply due to what you are doing. When you take a study from a 60 minute chart to a 15 minute chart, then the single value for the 60 minute bar will be placed across 4 15-minute bars, creating a straight, horizontal line, which then will connect to the next set of bars, etc.
