Setting font color on timeline axis with no background

Hello, On my timeline at the bottom of the chart, I am attempting to get it to be white on a black background. I must be missing something obvious, but when I change the font color to white, instead it creates a white background. I have already turned off the use global settings. Thank you for any help!
